Aga Khan Health Service, Pakistan is looking for competent Medical Officer for Aga Khan Health Service, Pakistan- Upper Chitral

Role and Responsibilities:

Clinical Care

  • Conduct initial and follow-up medical and psychiatric assessments.
  • Diagnose common mental health conditions in line with WHO mhGAP guidelines.
  • Prescribe and monitor psychotropic medications under supervision of a psychiatrist.
  • Provide emergency care in psychiatric crises (e.g., suicide attempts, violent behavior, withdrawal syndromes).
  • Screen and manage physical health conditions of psychiatric patients.

Patient & Family Support

  • Explain diagnoses, treatment options, and care plans to patients and families in an understandable and compassionate manner.
  • Support adherence to treatment and engage families in psychoeducation.

Collaboration & Teamwork

  • Work closely with psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, and social workers in planning and delivering patient care.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, ward rounds, and discharge planning.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain complete, accurate, and confidential medical records.
  • Prepare case summaries, referral letters, and discharge notes.
  • Report adverse drug reactions or critical incidents as per hospital policy.

Capacity Building & Research

  • Participate in continuing medical education (CME) and hospital training programs.
  • Engage in mental health research, audits, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Contribute to community awareness and stigma reduction campaigns when required.

  

Education, Experience & Competencies

  • MBBS degree from a recognized institution.
  • Valid registration with the national medical council.
  • At least 1–2 years of clinical experience; exposure to psychiatry/mental health preferred.
  • Knowledge of psychotropic medications, psychiatric emergencies, and WHO mhGAP protocols.
  • Strong diagnostic, clinical, and interpersonal skills.
