Project Context:
WWF-Pakistan is working on various projects for the conservation of freshwater through nature-based solutions. The project titled 'Promoting Water Stewardship and Replenishment among Vulnerable Communities of Karachi,' funded by Reckitt Pakistan, aims to replenish 26,600 m³ of water annually through different initiatives. This project will be implemented using a Collective Action approach by engaging and mobilizing key stakeholders in Karachi, including vulnerable communities, government departments, industries, and academia. The project focuses on improved water management practices, water conservation, awareness, and WASH facilities.
Job Summary:
The Coordinator will be responsible for the strategic planning and effective implementation of water stewardship interventions across multiple project sites in Karachi. The role will focus on identifying suitable intervention opportunities, supporting the engineering design and execution of context-specific solutions, ensuring timely project delivery, and achieving agreed project outcomes, replenishment targets based on VWBA 2.0, replenishment number as per the engineering design and capacity.
Key Responsibilities
o Identify and assess potential project sites and recommend feasible water stewardship and nature-based interventions based on site-specific environmental, hydrological, hydrogeological, and water-related needs and opportunities, including assessment of their water replenishment potential during the design stage.
o Conduct site assessments and technical feasibility studies covering water availability, water balance, water sources, groundwater conditions, drainage, flood risks, water quality, existing infrastructure, environmental conditions, and other site-specific factors relevant to intervention design
o Propose and design appropriate water stewardship, water conservation, groundwater recharge, wastewater/greywater management, and nature-based interventions, and recommend modifications to designs, technologies, or implementation approaches where required for successful project execution.
o Assess baseline water conditions and replenishment potential and recommend suitable technologies and intervention designs based on water availability, water quality, source characteristics, existing infrastructure, socioeconomic conditions, intended end use, and applicable technical and environmental standards.
o Develop and review technical designs, specifications, drawings, BOQs, and other technical documentation, where required, and provide technical input during procurement, construction, installation, and commissioning of interventions.
o Execute and oversee approved interventions, ensuring implementation in accordance with approved designs, technical specifications, environmental requirements, quality standards, safety considerations, and agreed timelines.
o Support the procurement and mobilization of materials, resources, equipment, and technical services required for project implementation, including review of technical specifications and verification of materials and services, where applicable.
o Engage relevant government departments and regulatory authorities, where required, to facilitate the process of obtaining NOCs, environmental clearances, technical approvals, and other necessary permissions.
o Plan and ensure the timely implementation of community-based trainings and capacity-building activities on water conservation, water stewardship, groundwater management, nature-based solutions, and other relevant topics in accordance with the project timeline.
o Compile, maintain, analyze, and update water replenishment and environmental monitoring data and monitor progress against agreed replenishment targets, indicators, milestones, and project outcomes.
o Maintain comprehensive project documentation, including baseline assessments, hydrological and environmental data, site assessments, feasibility studies, intervention designs, technical specifications, implementation progress, M&E data, environmental monitoring results, outcomes, replenishment achievements, lessons learned, and supporting evidence.
o Support other Freshwater Programme projects within the region, including technical assessments, environmental/hydrological inputs, intervention design, monitoring, and implementation support, as required
Qualification
• Bachelor or Masters in Environmentalor Civil Engineering
• Minimum 4-5 years of experience in the relevant field
• Certification and previous experience in Alliance for Water Stewardship is a plus point • Expertise in public speaking, organizing sessions, team management and presentation skills
