In Pakistan, RI works with government institutions, communities, local organizations and humanitarian partners to deliver safe, inclusive and accountable programs across protection, mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS), education, health, livelihoods and WASH, including programming in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.
Job Profile:
The Senior Training & Job Placement Officer is responsible for guiding trainees enrolled in the two-year Diploma Programs in Medical Technology and Midwifery/Lady Health Visitor (LHV) through the transition from classroom learning to decent, sustainable employment in the health sector. The role is fundamentally that of a catalyst and career coach, He/ She will work directly with trainees to build their confidence and practical readiness for the job market helping them think through how to access job opportunities, approach institutions and employers, organize their professional documentation, develop strong resumes/CVs, connect with relevant institutes and employers, prepare for tests and interviews, sharpen communication and presentation skills, present themselves convincingly to interview panels, and strengthen basic IT and digitalapplication skills. Alongside, this direct trainee support, the Officer builds and manages a network of health facilities, hospitals, training institutes, and employers, sharing verified trainee profiles and creating pathways for exposure visits, internships, apprenticeships and eventual job placement. The Officer works in close coordination with the technical team, implementing partners and relevant government departments (Health and Technical) at field level, ensuring all key stakeholders remain informed and engaged throughout the diploma cycle.
Key Responsibilities:
The Senior Training & Job Placement Officer will be responsible for the following:
Trainee-Facing Support: Career Readiness & Capacity Building
- He / she will serve as the primary point and mentor of contact for trainees enrolled in the two-year MedicalTechnician and Midwifery/LHV diploma courses, tracking progress from enrolment through to graduation and placement.
- Facilitate structured, interactive career-guidance and brainstorming sessions with trainees to identify, access and pursue job, internship and apprenticeship opportunities relevant to their diploma field.
- Coach trainees on how to professionally approach hospitals, health facilities, clinics and organizations when seeking employment or internship opportunities.
- Support trainees in organizing and completing their professional documentation academic certificates, diploma transcripts, council/board registrations, CNIC, domicile or local certificate, experience letters and other credentials required by employers or regulatory bodies.
- Guide and support trainees in developing clear, well-structured, sector-appropriate resumes/CVs and cover letters tailored to health-sector employers.
- Facilitate direct connections between trainees and relevant institutes, hospitals and employers, including arranging introductions, referrals and follow-up communication.
- Prepare trainees to present themselves as strong candidates in recruitment tests and interviews, including subject-matter refreshers relevant to common health-sector assessments.
- Conduct mock interviews and structured employability sessions, providing individualized, constructive feedback on content, confidence and delivery.
- Deliver targeted coaching on how to communicate persuasively and professionally with an interview panel, including handling difficult questions and articulating one's value as a candidate.
- Design and facilitate sessions to enhance trainees' verbal and written communication and presentation skills, including public speaking, active listening and professional etiquette.
- Deliver basic IT-skills training relevant to job searching and workplace readiness email communication, use of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), online job portals and application forms, and basic use of digital health/records systems where relevant.
Employer & Institutional Linkages
- Build and continuously expand a network of hospitals, national level such as Shifa International & Agha Khan as well as local levels Basic Health Units (BHUs), Rural Health Centers (RHCs), District/Tehsil Headquarter Hospitals, private clinics and laboratories, and NGOs able to offer internships, exposure visits, apprenticeships or job placements to trainees.
- Coordinate and share verified trainee profiles with relevant institutions and employers to actively link trainees to internship and employment opportunities.
- Organize and facilitate exposure visits and internship placements that allow trainees to gain practical, supervised experience in real health-service settings prior to graduation.
- Conduct regular market surveys and market assessments within the health sector to identify emerging job trends, in-demand skill sets and employer expectations specific to Medical Technicians and Midwives/LHVs.
- Organize and facilitate employability-skills workshops and health-sector-focused job fairs, bringing together trainees, training institutes and prospective employers.
- Represent RI at community-level coordination meetings, promotional events, job fairs and networking platforms relevant to health-sector employment.
- Also engage the trainees enrolled in the previous phase and develop linkages with the relevant institutes/organizations.
Stakeholder Coordination
- Coordinate and maintain strong working relationships with relevant departments and regulatory bodies, including the District/Provincial Health Department, Pakistan Nursing Council (PNC) / relevant nursing & midwifery council, Health Department, medical centers, hospitals, NGOs, private / public Institutes and other technical and health-training authorities, to ensure diploma and placement activities remain aligned with regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate closely with the technical team of the relevant institutes delivering the diploma courses, and stakeholders to ensure smooth, well-informed implementation of project activities in the field.
- Establish and maintain networks with relevant private-sector and public-sector employers across the health, laboratory and allied-services industries to identify and create job opportunities for trainees.
Data Management, Monitoring & Reporting
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive, up-to-date database of trainees including personal details, diploma track (Medical Technician / Midwifery-LHV), academic progress, documentation status, and placement/internship status for tracking and reporting purposes.
- Establish and maintain a database of potential employers, hospitals and partner institutions for ongoing linkage and referral purposes.
- Maintain and regularly update the project's MIS/database with trainee profiles, session attendance, training outcomes and placement information in consultation with MEAL section.
- Regularly monitor the progress of trainees’ post-placement and conduct structured follow-up to assess employment retention, workplace satisfaction and any additional support needs.
- Ensure accurate, timely documentation of all training sessions, coaching activities, attendance records and participant feedback.
- Prepare and submit high-quality narrative and data reports on training, career-guidance and placement activities to the Head of Office / Provincial Manager on regular basis.
- Support the design and dissemination of IEC (Information, Education and Communication) materials to promote job placement services, trainee achievements and available opportunities.
Inclusion & Safeguarding in Programming
- Support the participant-selection process for career-guidance and placement services, prioritizing the meaningful involvement of women, persons with disabilities and other vulnerable or marginalized groups.
- Ensure all coaching, linkage and placement activities are delivered in a manner that is inclusive, nondiscriminatory and sensitive to the specific barriers women and vulnerable trainees may face in accessing employment in the health sector.

Qualifications & Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Social Sciences, Education, Public Health, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Minimum Five (5) years of experience in job placement, employment/career services, or health-sector workforce development; prior experience supporting Medical Technician, Nursing, Midwifery or LHV trainees is strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated experience engaging with stakeholders, including employers, hospitals, health departments and training institutes.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, mentoring and organizational skills, with the ability to motivate and coach young trainees, including women and vulnerable candidates.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and comfort using digital tools/portals for job applications and data management.
- Strong analytical and report-writing skills, with experience tracking, reporting and maintaining accurate placement and trainee data.
- Sound understanding of market trends, employer expectations and employability requirements within Pakistan's health sector, and familiarity with relevant regulatory bodies (e.g., Health Department, PNC, medical centers, hospitals, NGOs, Private / Public Institutes etc.
- Fluency in Urdu and local languages (e.g., Pashto/Balochi/Brahui as relevant to Quetta & Pishin); working proficiency in English preferred.
- Willingness and ability to travel frequently (approx. 40%) to training institutes and health facilities across Quetta and suburbs.
