Expert Trainer (STTA) – Challenge Fund Component

USAID Small and Medium Enterprise Activity (SMEA) is a five-year project that is supporting Pakistan in SME-led economic growth that will help create jobs, foster entrepreneurship, and contribute to an increased GDP. As a part of the United States Government’s long-term commitment to helping Pakistanis secure a more prosperous future by increasing household incomes and employment, nurturing competitive small and medium enterprises, expanding trade and investment and creating more rewarding business opportunities, SMEA is working towards improving the enabling environment for private sector-led growth.

USAID SMEA through its Challenge Fund component implement two grant competitive programs namely SME Growth Grants and Innovation Grants (Solve the Challenge). The Innovation grant offers small awards to interested SMEs to address sector specific challenges identified by SMEA.

Potential grant applicants of innovation grants receive the following capacity building opportunities during pre-application submission and pre-award stages.

-        Co-Creation Workshop: At the pre-application stage the potential grant applicants will receive an opportunity to participate in a day long co-creation workshop. The workshop will be organized in four cities (Islamabad, Lahore. Peshawar and Karachi). The workshop is aimed to familiarize participants with the main methodological elements of a user-centered innovation process through the practice of co-creation methodology and guide them in an innovation exercise and serve as preparation for further innovation processes to be developed in their solution.

-        Business Model Development Workshop: Shortlisted applicants will be invited for a day long workshop to assist them in developing their final Business Plan with a clear and comprehensive design for the Business-to-Business linkage, to ensure smaller firms in the value chain benefit from the linkage. The workshop will be organized in three cities (Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi). The workshops are highly experiential, mentorship-driven programs designed to visually facilitate participants through the universal steps required to start and build a viable business.

-        Pitch Training: This one-day training will help innovators create a sales pitch for their business by training them to organize the flow of information regarding their business. Often, participants with great ideas or solutions face risk missing out on selection due to lacking the skills necessary to present their ideas effectively. The workshop will be organized in two cities (Islamabad/Lahore and Karachi)
