PURPOSE OF THE POST

The security & safety officer advises the management of the ICRC sub-delegation in Peshawar on security-related matters as well as the assessment of risks and associated mitigating measures. S/he ensures the proper diffusion of and access to information in line with ICRC’s duty of care obligations.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The security & safety officer compiles security-related data and information which is relevant for the area of responsibility (AoR) covered by the ICRC sub-delegation in Peshawar. S/he analyses the security situation in the AoR and advises the management on potential risks.
  • S/he manages the risk-analysis and maintains a database as well as mapping of relevant security incidents, threats and trends through the appropriate institutional tools.
  • Based on the risk assessment of the sub-delegation and ICRC’s security and safety standards, s/he suggests appropriate security and safety measures.
  • S/he develops an external network with formal and informal security forums such as the police and other law enforcing agencies. S/he notifies the authorities about ICRC’s movements and activities.
  • S/he advises the management on implications in case of non-compliance to security rules. S/he supports the management in dealing with possible (judicial) investigations.
  • S/he ensures that all implemented measures reach the minimal standards as per ICRC policy.
  • S/he manages the security service contracts with complete transparency and professionalism, in consultation with the administration and the IT department.
  • S/he monitors the effective implementation and maintenance of all measures. S/he reports on any situation or event of concern through the appropriate channels.
  • S/he provides security briefings and training ICRC staff as well as visitors. S/he helps raise staff awareness through specific security and safety awareness sessions.

 

REQUIREMENTS

  • University degree.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar field of activity.
  • Security & Safety management background, experience in crisis management is an asset, possible in police or emergency services.
  • Fluent knowledge of English as well as Urdu. Knowledge of Pashtu is an asset.
  • Computer literacy as well as mastery of digital tools.
