Job Purpose:
To plan, coordinate and monitor orphan support programs that promote the educational, social and emotional well-being of orphaned children. The Project Officer will ensure effective service delivery, stakeholder engagement, resource management and program reporting to achieve sustainable and measurable outcomes for beneficiaries.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, implement, and oversee orphan support programs aimed at improving the educational, social, emotional, and overall well-being of beneficiaries.
- Coordinate educational assistance initiatives, including scholarships, school enrollment, academic monitoring, provision of learning materials, and performance support.
- Plan and facilitate extracurricular, life-skills, recreational, and developmental activities to promote the holistic growth and empowerment of children.
- Develop and maintain effective relationships with caregivers, schools, healthcare providers, community leaders, and other stakeholders to ensure quality service delivery and beneficiary support.
- Monitor program implementation against approved plans and targets, maintain accurate beneficiary records and databases, and ensure timely reporting to management and donors.
- Manage allocated program budgets, oversee resource utilization, and coordinate procurement processes in compliance with organizational policies and donor requirements.
- Conduct regular field visits, assessments, and follow-ups to evaluate beneficiary progress, identify emerging needs, and recommend appropriate interventions.
- Advocate for the rights, protection, and welfare of orphaned and vulnerable children through community awareness, engagement, and outreach initiatives.
- Establish, strengthen, and sustain partnerships with local organizations, government departments, educational institutions, and community stakeholders to maximize program impact and sustainability.
- Ensure full compliance with child safeguarding standards, donor regulations, organizational policies, and applicable legal requirements.
- Support proposal development, donor visits, audits, evaluations, and other program-related activities as required.
- Perform any other duties and responsibilities assigned by the Line Manager in support of organizational objectives.
Skills & Knowledge Required:
• Knowledge of child welfare, orphan support, community development and safeguarding principles.
• Strong project planning, implementation, monitoring and reporting skills.
• Ability to coordinate with multiple stakeholders and manage partnerships effectively.
• Experience in data collection, analysis and report writing.
• Budget management and resource planning skills.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal and advocacy skills.
• Strong organizational, problem-solving and time-management abilities.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and data management tools.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Education & Experience:
• Minimum Bachelor's degree (16 years of education) in Social Work, Sociology, Education, Development Studies, Public Administration or a related field from a recognized institution.
• Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in orphan support, education, community development or social welfare programs, preferably within the NGO/development sector.
