Trainer for Awareness and training of youth on climate related industries (nature-based tourism, climate friendly travel, and transport, nature based industry and equiping youth with climate-smart skills in the travel and hospitality industry and nature-based industry)
Job Description:
The Trainer will design and deliver practical, youth-focused training on climate-smart and sustainable practices in travel and hospitality sectors. The role aims to build green skills, promote low-carbon tourism, and enhance youth employability and entrepreneurship in climate-resilient industries.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
Training Design & Delivery
- Design and deliver interactive training modules on climate-smart travel and hospitality practices tailored to youth.
- Conduct practical sessions covering sustainable operations in tourism, hospitality, and related value chains.
- Apply participatory training methodologies, including group work, case studies, simulations, and field visits.
- Train youth on the integration of renewable energy solutions (solar, energy efficiency, waste-to-energy) in hospitality and tourism facilities.
- Promote eco-tourism principles, low-impact travel, conservation ethics, and responsible visitor management.
- Introduce climate-smart practices in the food industry, including sustainable sourcing, food waste reduction, and energy-efficient food services.
- Strengthen youth skills for green jobs and entrepreneurship in climate-smart travel and hospitality sectors.
- Support development of business ideas, eco-tourism services, and climate-friendly tourism products.
- Promote innovation, leadership, and problem-solving skills among youth participants.
- Raise awareness on climate change impacts on tourism and hospitality sectors and adaptive strategies.
- Promote carbon-footprint reduction, water conservation, waste management, and circular economy approaches.
- Encourage youth engagement in local climate action and sustainability initiatives.
- Coordinate with project staff and community organizations.
- Facilitate linkages between trained youth and relevant markets, employers, or green enterprises.
- Support youth participation in awareness campaigns, eco-events, and sustainability initiatives.
- Maintain training records, attendance sheets, and pre- and post-training assessments.
- Document outcomes, success stories, and best practices related to youth-led climate-smart initiatives.
- Contribute to project progress reports in line with donor and organizational requirements.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental sciences, Tourism & Hospitality Management, or a related field.
- Minimum 2–3 years of experience in climate-smart tourism, hospitality training, or green skills development.
- Practical knowledge of eco-tourism, renewable energy applications, sustainable food systems, and natural resource management.
- Experience working with youth and delivering participatory training programs.
