Research Associate – Econometric
Modelling & Machine Learning

Position Overview

The Senior Research Associate will lead the design, implementation, and analysis of advanced econometric and machine learning models to support data-driven policy and research initiatives. The role involves working with large and complex datasets, developing predictive and causal models, and translating analytical results into actionable insights for policymakers and development partners.

Key Responsibilities

Research & Analysis

• Design and implement econometric models to product small area estimates
• Apply machine learning algorithms (e.g., random forests, gradient boosting, clustering, and neural networks) to enhance prediction and classification accuracy.
• Integrate econometric and ML methods for hybrid analytical frameworks and policy simulations.
• Conduct robustness checks, sensitivity analyses, and model validation.
• Manage and analyze large-scale datasets from national surveys, administrative records, and secondary data sources.

Dissemination & Reporting

• Translate model outputs into policy-relevant insights, technical briefs, and academic manuscripts for journal publication.
• Prepare presentations and visualizations for conferences, workshops, and stakeholder meetings.
• Contribute to grant writing and proposal development, particularly in quantitative research components.

Experience

• Relevant work experience of at least 2 years, if Master’s then at least 1 year of experience.
• Proficient at STATA/R/Python and willing to learn
• Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
• Command over written communication in English.
• Knowledge of various quantitative data analysis tools, data visualizations tools will be an added advantage.
• Ability in developing and designing research products.
• Demonstrated ability to deliver within tight deadlines with a strong focus to independently determine, balance and pursue competing priorities.
