Role Overview: The Consultant will conduct Market Need Assessment in two districts Khairpur and Ghotki of Sindh province of the potential of the companies’ new products/ideas and proposed investments. This will include a comprehensive market assessment and analysis of the target customer base, market trends, entry barriers, competition, risks, opportunities and the company’s resources and constraints.

 Market Need Assessment (MNA)

 The consultant will ensure:

Desk review of existing literature on trade and marketing status, trends and needs relating to the selected value chains (businesses).

Develop a market need assessment/analysis report for each district (Ghotki and Khairpur).

Undertake Consultations including meetings with relevant stakeholders, Chambers of Commerce, Trade Associations, producer organizations, relevant wholesalers, retailers, marketers within the value chain as a critical part of the study. 

Research and map wholesalers, retailers, industries and private sector (local and national) that demand recycled materials, products, services, recycled packaging, artisanship and raw materials and major markets.

Synthesize data/marketing information to clearly identify medium and long-term market opportunities. .

Identify viable entrepreneurship and start-ups in both district

Make recommendations of the best business modalities for the group projects (i.e. home-based businesses, associations, partnership, cooperatives, for profit companies, etc.) that provide the best incentives and is conducive to the success and sustainability of the business.

Coordinate meetingsto determine:

    i.      Willingness of buyers and regulators to collaborate with the beneficiaries, and 

    ii.      Quantification of demand and clarification of product specifications and terms of trade.

SCOPE OF WORK  

The primary focus is on agriculture, organic farming techniques, drip irrigation and water conservation , hospitality, tourism, retail, and textile value chains, other sectors such as food packaging, metal and plastics manufacturing could be included for further analysis depending on their scale and importance in the local economy (in consultation with host organization). The market analysis should be conducive to market-based solutions and economically sound, viable, sustainable ideas and interventions that lift target adolescent (girls/ boys) beneficiaries from poverty.

 METHODOLOGY  

 Both secondary and primary research tools will be used to conduct an in-depth but need assessment study

3.1       Secondary Research: First a brief desk review will be conducted of the sectors in Sindh using secondary sources such as SMEDA, National and INGOs, relevant ministries, and Govt Line Depts, Chambers of Commerce or Business Associations etc.

3.2       Primary Research/Survey: After a rapid desk review, primary research tools should be used to collect relevant data that can be used in the training for the beneficiaries as well as later for their benefit.

 The MNA should help in identifying the businesses and value chains that are most able to absorb the project beneficiaries in the province mainly in targeted districts. 

 It should specifically aim to collect sufficient information to enable the project team to:

a)      Make an informed decision about the value chains in which to train the beneficiaries.

b)      Better develop skills training for the beneficiaries toward existing labor market demand as well as opportunities for self-employment and businesses.

c)      Identify the underlying constraints in the market to help beneficiaries cope with the issues in future and help the trainer develop the learning sessions accordingly.

 DURATION OF ASSIGNMENT: The duration of the contract is 45-day. The staff must be available as needed during the period earmarked for the consultancy. 

 REPORTING REQUIREMENTS: Reporting to the Project Manager. 

 TERMS OF PAYMENT: The consultant’s payment will be comprised of: i. Fee: Payment to cover for the services provided to carry out this assignment as per the TOR. Boarding, Lodging and travel for self and any team members. Payment will be made in instalments as follows: 40% will be released on the signing of contract, 40% mid of assignment and 20% after the successful completion of assignment.
