To provide three days training on Psychosocial First Aid to MDM and MOH Staff Pakistan
Context
Médecins du Monde (MDM) is a medical international NGO based in Paris, France (MDM-F), which was created in 1980. Considering health as a fundamental right, MDM-F provides emergency and long-term health care to the most vulnerable population throughout the world while fighting for their rights and working to improve their access to quality health care.
Project background:
MdM has been working in Pakistan since 1995 through various projects: Mother and Child Health programs (1996-2004), Primary Health Care for IDPs due to Earthquake (in 2005-2006), Smile operation (surgery), Gender-Based Violence in Punjab (2004-2015), IDPs of military conflict (2009 - current) and IDPs of floods (2010). The SRH strategy for 2014-2020 includes a specific work in crisis settings with the objective to provide the SRH minimum package and respond to GBV. The intervention includes among other activities, emergency MHPSS (Mental Health and Psycho-Social Support) after critical events as well as resilience-based activities. Mental health and psycho-social support (MHPSS) is viewed as a priority, cross-cutting medical practices which should be integrated into existing programmes and assigned adequate resources to meet expectations in the field and the priorities of the organisation.
Medical team members are the key person at bases, who are responsible for the smooth execution of the program. It is necessary that their capacities should be enhanced by conducting and organizing different pieces of training for them. Due to the high turnover of the medical staff at a key position, coordination office has been facing difficulties to manage the day to day challenges in the field. Considering these facts in mind, the Coordination office Medical team at Islamabad is planning to organize three days training on psychological first aid. We had conducted one training last year to sensitize the participants on this topic. Now MDM is planning to arrange a refresher training covering PFA.
