The U.S. Pakistan Partnership for Agricultural Market Development (AMD) Program is a four year USAID funded program implemented by CNFA in Pakistan. The objective of AMD is to support the development of Pakistan’s commercial agriculture, particularly through improving the ability of Pakistan’s agriculture and livestock sectors to meet both international and domestic demand in targeted product lines.

Agriculture is Pakistan’s largest economical sector, which contributes 21.4% to the country’s GDP, provides 40% employment, and contributes 60% of the total exports. The horticulture sub-sector of fruits, vegetables, etc., contributes 11% to the total value addition in the agriculture sector, whereas the national horticulture exports amount to approximately USD 400.67 million (2013-14).

The awareness of using quality and safe food is increasing day by day, with more conditions  emphasis on quality assurance and safety of food. The use of pesticides was once considered to be the only effective and efficient method of controlling field and storage pest/pathogen. Now, alternate methods are being used to protect human health and environment from detrimental effects of pesticides residues. Temperature preconditioning and irradiation have shown a promising results in the last few decades.

To revitalize Pakistan agriculture exports, AMD proposes to encourage and partner private sector investment in eBeam technology by mitigating risks through matching grants and by providing technical assistance. This cross cutting activity has the potential to transform the agriculture sector in Pakistan by decreasing post-harvest food losses due to spoilage and quality deterioration of agriculture produce, and increasing market access by extending the shelf life of the same.

AMD seeks a qualified vendor on a competitive basis of price and quality for the procurement of a 500 KVA Generator, committed by AMD for the eBeam cost share grant.
