Call for Application-WASH Hygiene Promotion Assistant

Under the overall supervision of the WASH & SNFI Programme Manager and under direct supervision of the Senior WASH Team Coordinator, the successful candidate will help organize and contribute to the implementation of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) activities in compliance with IOM’s and donors’ rules and regulations to support high-quality programme implementation.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities

1. Support and monitor the Implementing Partners in the implementation of community events / hygiene awareness campaigns to raise awareness about key hygiene issues and their implications on the health of the community, ensuring messaging is accurate, well targeted and well delivered, and are gender sensitive.
2. Support and monitor the Implementing Partners in distributing of Hygiene items.
3. Support and monitor the Implementing partners in facilitating community participation during the interventions.
4. Assist in preparing of IEC materials to be used at community level.
5. Assist to coordinate training for community representatives on Hygiene, Sanitation, cholera control and related issues.
6. Conduct continuous monitoring and evaluation of project activities.
7. Identify, compile and maintain training materials for uses.
8. Observe community needs, project challenges, performance and capacity of Implementing Partners and general feedback on the project and timely share this information with to the technical team on continuous basis, and to gather specific information when required.
9. Support the Implementing Partner in conducting surveys (i.e. baseline, KAP)
10. Any other duties assigned by the Unit Supervisor.

EDUCATION

• Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Health, Public Health and Social Science field with three (3) years of relevant professional experience, or
• Higher Secondary School certificate with five (5) years of relevant professional experience

EXPERIENCE:

• Experience in the implementation of Hygiene Promotion or Social Mobilization activities in emergency contexts is a must;
• Experience working with Afghan communities is an advantage
• Experience working with Implementing Partners is an advantage

SKILLS

• Excellent monitoring and evaluation (M&E) skills; managerial skills; organizational
  skills 
• Ability to work with limited supervision.
• Works effectively with partners, service providers, local authorities, stakeholders, beneficiaries, and the broader community to advance country office or regional objectives.

LANGUAGES 

REQUIRED

For this position, fluency in English and working knowledge of Pashto is required (oral and written).

DESIRABLE

Fluency in Pashtu or Dari is highly desirable

Working knowledge of Urdu is highly desirable
