Purpose of the role:
CABI (Reginal Centre Pakistan) is implementing ‘NEFR Technology Projects” in five districts (Tando Allah Yar, Sanghar, Mirpurkhas, Thatta and Larkana) of Sindh -Pakistan to Promote environment friendly resource conserving technologies in farming systems to reduce pesticides use in crops. The project objectives are• Reduce pests menace in crops in guavas, mango, cotton, sugarcane and okra •Build capacity of stakeholders (farmers, researchers, Extension, Industry) to implement ecological pest management technologies • Maximize natural biological control of pests in crops • Improve production systems in line with international standards • Achieve sustainability in pest management on area wide basis.
The selected candidate for this position would be responsible for support to project implementation team under guidance of Project Manager and NEFR Biocontrol Specialist. This position is to be recruited for seven months (up to 30 September, 2022). However, initially the successful candidate should have to complete the six months of probation period then will be continued for further contract.
Key accountabilities:
- Work under the guidance and supervision of Project Manager
- Responsible for overall management of Biological control laboratories established at different sites.
- Responsible for coordination between NEFRs and biological control laboratories for establishment of different natural enemies of targeted crops.
- Responsible for mass rearing of beneficial insects for the support to main NEFRs.
- Update the performance based progress to project Manager and biocontrol specialist
- To manage the associated staff at biological control laboratories.
- Data collection on predators / Parasitoids / Insect Pest and technical report writing
- Assist the NEFR Specialist and capacity building specialist in execution of training program
- Support project technical team in organizing field days, workshops and overall project projections.
- Develop manuals / leaflet / brochures with the support of NEFR specialist and Communication Development specialist.
- Coordinating project level events, trainings and field days as necessary.
- Record keeping of project activities (Technical/Financial/administration/training etc).
- Timely submission of accounts, expense summaries, timesheets for field staff.
- Good computer and IT Skills
- Good communication and interpersonal skills, Self-motivated, an enthusiastic team player.
Education & Qualifications
- M.Sc. (Agri.) Hons with specialization in Entomology
Experience
1-2 years field experience will be required
