The overall objective of the action “Accelerate Prosperity in Central and South Asia” (AP Asia) supported by the European Commission (EC) is to contribute to the enhanced equitable economic well-being of women and men in rural Pakistan, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, and the Kyrgyz Republic. The specific objective of this Action is to improve self-employment and employment of women and men in supported enterprises. The Action will achieve this through two intermediate outcomes:

  • Increased growth of supported enterprises. 
  • Increased trade between supported enterprises, producers, and clients in targeted areas. 

The creation of new start-up enterprises, the growth of small businesses, and a focus on youth and women led ventures will be critical. The Action aims to contribute to positive trends in Gross National Income and Gender Development Index scores. 

The Accelerate Prosperity (AP) is seeking a high calibre professional for the position of Accelerate Manager & Investment Analyst AP Pakistan in Chitral for its activities and operations. The officer will report to AP’s Manager Investments and Technical Assistant.

Job Purpose:

The Accelerator Manager and Investment Analyst will be responsible for overall management of activities and operations within his/ her accelerator and investment portfolio, business acceleration (pre- and post-investment TA and mentorship) of Accelerate Prosperity Pakistan.

 

Accelerate Prosperity is designed to leverage the creative power and commercial instincts of private sector (including AKFED) to address the needs and challenges of budding entrepreneurs, startups and existing MSMEs. It is a part of new global initiative of the AKDN in Central and South Asia, which follows guidance from the Aga Khan Foundation (AKF) Board to develop more formal structures to catalyze enterprises within AKDN’s main area development programs, where economic opportunities remain insufficient. Through patient capital and tailored business advisory to startups and businesses, AP complements broader employment-related programs of AKF and draws significantly on technical expertise from the Aga Khan Fund for Economic Development’s (AKFED) Industrial Promotion Services (IPS), and coordinates efforts with the AKDN’s financial institutions, the University of Central Asia and many other national partners.

 

Job Responsibilities

·         Training and Advisory

§  Assist Manager Investments & TA in Updating Training and Advisory Model

§  ICE for New Ideas & Early-Stage Businesses: Conduct training and advisory for business modelling, information memorandum (IM) development, and financial modelling (FM), in collaboration with E4Impact Foundation and KIU.

§  Acceleration for SGBs: Conduct training and advisory for 35 SGBs (existing businesses) on business modelling, information memorandum (IM) development, and financial modelling (FM).

§  HV for Early-Stage Businesses: Conduct training and advisory for business modelling, information memorandum (IM) development, and financial modelling (FM), in collaboration with AKU.

§  EdV for Early-Stage Businesses: Conduct training and advisory for business modelling, information memorandum (IM) development, and financial modelling (FM), in collaboration with AKU.

·         Due Diligence

§  Due Diligence: Conduct necessary due diligence, financial modeling, risk analysis and development of information memorandum in the structuring of select-equity investments, guarantees, grants and/ or TA, or other forms of assistance to be extended by Accelerate Prosperity and/or pool of its investors.

·         Business Forum

§  Pitch: Assist Manager Investments and Marketing and Communication Manager and other staff in organizing final pitch session for startups and SGBs and connecting them to investors

·         Investment Deployment

§  Legal Vetting: Liaise with internal/ external legal counsel and ratify all investment proposals for all regulatory and compliance concerns;

§  Approvals: Assist Manager Investments & TA in getting internal approvals for investment proposals from AP Investment Committee.

§  Documentation: With the support of internal/ external legal counsel, ensure for all deals that appropriate legal documentation is successfully concluded in line with approvals and that financial close (i.e., first disbursement) is achieved in a timely fashion.

·         Post Investment Monitoring, TA & Repayment

§  Monitoring: Undertake the monitoring of investees, ensuring compliance with financing agreement, required institutional and regulatory guidelines, implementation of mutually agreed steps in DD report, policies and procedures of Accelerate Prosperity as well as agreed covenants and reporting requirements up to financing effectiveness.

§  Training and Mentorship: Extend post investment training and advisory to the investees as per the recommendations made in the DD reports.

·         Repayments & Exits: Ensure timely repayments/ recoveries by portfolio businesses and exits.

·         Knowledge Products: Develop knowledge products for internal and external stakeholders on AP’s training and advisory services, investment approach, criteria, stories etc., in liaison with Marketing and Communication Manager

·         Management & Operations

§  Facilitate all training, advisory activities, and space users within the accelerator (Subject to COVID situation).

  • Optimize monetization of AP space. (Subject to COVID situation).

  • Facilitate administrative and financial matters of AP space.

 

·         Any other task(s) given by Manager Investments and Technical Assistance.

 

Educational Requirements

  • MS Finance, MBA Finance, ICMA, M. Com, ACCA, CFA level 2 Candidate (will be preferred) or an equivalent recognized professional qualification.

 

Experience

  • (Required) Minimum 2-4 years of relevant hands-on experience in developing business plan/Information memorandum, Financial models and risk assessment of financing cases.
  • (Required) Experience in conducting external and internal audits.
  • (Required) Strong knowledge and command of the IFRS, IAS and internal control systems. 
  • (Preferable) Experience of working in Central and South Asia 
  • (Preferable) Experience in projects related to entrepreneurship, business development, SMEs etc. 
  • Excellent writing and reporting skills. 
  • Computer literate (Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc.). 

 

Soft Skills 

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and Urdu. 
  • Highly proactive and passionate about work. 
  • Capable of producing high quality results within often tight deadlines. 
  • Ability for multitasking and working under pressure. 
  • Ability to distill large volumes of data in short periods of time. 
  • Intellectual curiosity and demonstrated record of professional development/growth. 
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work through complex models to determine the key assumptions, implicit caveats and limitations. 
  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with all level of management.
