COVID GRANT 2020: GRANTS TO SUPPORT NUTRITION SECURITY OF FOOD SYSTEM WORKERS

Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) Pakistan is pleased to invite applications for its COVID Grant 2020 Cycle-3 to provide short-term support for the nutrition of food system workers that are impacted by the COVID-19.

Provision of this grant is part of the Keeping Food Markets Working (KFMW) programme managed by the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) through funding from the Dutch Government and the Global Affairs Canada (GAC). GAIN has developed the Keeping Food Markets Working (KFMW) programme as an emergency response to the COVID-19 crisis, providing rapid support to food system workers and small and medium enterprises supplying nutritious foods in order to keep food markets open.

Purpose of the Grant

This grant is meant to be spent for supporting free or subsidized provision of nutritious foods to food system workers, and/or their family members for 1-2 months to alleviate food and nutrition security issues that have been exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • The grant is open to ALL national private sector companies including large companies and SMEs who employ or work directly with Food System Workers (e.g. contractual farmers etc.)
  • Associations/Social Enterprises dealing directly with Food System Workers are also eligible to apply

Grant Utilizations

  • Funds will be used to procure foods to alleviate nutrition security of companies’ workforce and possibly their households
  • Foods procured must be locally available and provide elements of the diet which are hard to access or afford given the current COVID market challenges
  • Grants cannot be used to support staff salaries or costs
  • Not more than 5% of the grant can be used to support the delivery of the foods unless food vouchers are used.
  • The grant amount will vary from organization to organization depending upon the workforce/beneficiaries. Total per person grant amount should not exceed $20.
