The Community Resilience Activity-North (CRA-N) Project is designed to support community level resilience development and conflict prevention activities within the newly merged districts (NMD’s) of Khyber, Kurram, North Waziristan and Orakzai Districts within Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Province; CRA-N will pursue a multi-disciplinary and community participatory approach and will work in close coordination with the Government of Pakistan (GoP) at the regional and district level. The Senior Project Assistant – Gender will be working directly under the leadership of the CRA-North Regional Team Leader, and under the overall supervision of the CRA-North Chief of Party. The Senior Project Assistant – Gender will be tasked with implementing  gender mainstreaming practices, programs and activities with a focus on economic empowerment, social and gender equity as well as overall community resilience; which are key to achieving CRA-North’s objectives of empowering disadvantaged and vulnerable women and girls from remote and marginalized communities and enabling them to exercise their economic, social and civil rights.These efforts will enable innovative and effective gender resilience approaches that will support the reintegration of Temporarily Displaced Persons, enhancement of Community Cohesion and increase in Civic Engagement, while reducing marginalization and increasing resilience amongst remote communities within the newly merged districts. 

II) Responsibilities and Accountabilities

The Senior Project Assistant - Gender responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • In close collaboration and coordination with the District and Regional Team Leader   provide the required technical guidance, and support for all aspects of the project’s gender sensitive and resilience focused approaches, ensuring that the requirements of women, girls, boys and men are being considered throughout every aspect of CRA-North’s community resilience programming.
  • Track gender mainstreaming opportunities across the target districts and engage proactively with the regional and district teams to document learning, share stories and showcasing gender mainstreaming programming.
  • Participate in the drafting of an appropriate Gender Resilience Action Plan which will effectively integrate gender mainstreaming and resilience requirements into the project’s overall community resilience approach.
  • Maintain a clear understanding of the target districts and their diverse communities, while contributing to the design and implementation of grant funded community resilience programming; ensuring that resilience activities include gender-sensitive programmatic approaches.
  • Schedule and participate in planned project site visits, assessing the pace and quality of gender mainstreaming programming activities and providing written updates to the District Team Leader and Regional Team Leader on a timely basis.
  • Facilitate and engage in Community Consultations within the target districts and document gender considerations and suggest how CRA-North may best design gender resilience programming that supports disadvantaged women and girls from remote and marginalized communities.
  • Identify and build a collaborative network with Implementing Partners, Government Agencies, Community Bases Stakeholders, who are engaged in gender mainstreaming programming within the target districts and encourage collaboration on research, programming and advocacy.
  • Provide guidance/Training to Regional and District personnel in effective gender resilience approaches and skill sets, to ensure that CRA-North’s gender mainstreaming programming is of the highest quality; and develop the appropriate training materials for these activities as required.
  • Submit scheduled bi-weekly reports to the Regional Team Leader, reflecting on both progress and lessons learned regarding our gender mainstreaming programming activities; while also reporting on the implementation environment within the district.
  • Perform such other duties as may be assigned.

III)Required Qualifications and Experience

Education

Bachelor’s Degree: in Gender studies, Sociology, Anthropology, Development Studies or a related field with 4 years of relevant experience.

Experience 

  • Minimum of 4 years’ experience working within a Gender Mainstreaming role, preferably with experience focusing on Community Cohesion, Resilience, Civic Engagement, and strengthening vulnerable households.
  • Proven experience in writing and critical thinking.
  • Capacity to understand and analyze the local, district and regional implementation environment and how this environment caters to the effective design and implementation of community-based gender mainstreaming programming suitable to the geographical, cultural and political context.
  • Knowledge of the newly merged districts (NMD’s) geography, culture and government structure is a distinct advantage.
  • Knowledge and experience working with USAID funded resilience focused programs is preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience working with UN Agencies is preferred.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and Urdu, with proficiency in Pashto considered a distinct advantage

Skills

  • Qualitative and quantitative research and data analysis skills and ability to communicate complex information to a range of diverse stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated skill sets in producing and managing content for online blogs, websites, social media platforms, radio programming.
  • Expertise in Microsoft office suite software, specifically, Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, SharePoint and Teams
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and possesses the ability to work effectively with others in a cross-cultural and fragile environment.
