Integrated Vegetable Production Business for Women

in Balochistan & Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

‘The Horticultural Advancement Activity’ (THAzA) is a 5-year project awarded by USAID and implemented by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations. THAzA focuses on selected horticultural value chains in Balochistan and in the selected Newly Merged Districts (NMDs) of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (previously called FATA). The objectives of THAzA are to create jobs and generate income, through increased productivity and quality, improved marketing and access to services and investments in horticultural value chains.

FAO under THAzA Project intends to extend grant support on cost sharing basis, for integrated vegetable production businesses using high tunnel farming technology. The objective is to promote this lucrative business of off-season vegetable and vegetable seedling production among female grower in targeted areas. These will be in-kind grants wherein FAO will procure high tunnel equipment, drip irrigation system, quality tomato seeds and other grant items and deliver at each grantees’ sites. Selected grantees will be required to invest by covering all other costs of the activity including acquisition of land, labor, civil work, etc. FAO grant support offer is restricted to female applicants and specifically for business facilities that would be located within the following districts:

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: North Waziristan, South Waziristan, Kurram and Orakzai

Balochistan: Quetta, Khuzdar, Naseerabad, Harnai and Zhob

Through this RFA, FAO invites interested female progressive farmers and agri-entrepreneurs to apply for THAzA grants. For further details and application form, interested applicants may either download the complete RFA attached or obtain copies from the FAO / THAzA Provincial offices in Quetta and Peshawar. For ease of access, RFA will also be made available through the relevant District Agricultural Extension Office.
