Logistics Sector Expert- Mentor (STTA) – Challenge Fund Component

 

USAID Small and Medium Enterprise Activity (SMEA) is a five-year project that is supporting Pakistan in SME-led economic growth that will help create jobs, foster entrepreneurship, and contribute to an increased GDP. As a part of the United States Government’s long-term commitment to helping Pakistanis secure a more prosperous future by increasing household incomes and employment, nurturing competitive small and medium enterprises, expanding trade and investment and creating more rewarding business opportunities, SMEA is working towards improving the enabling environment for private sector-led growth.

USAID SMEA through its Challenge Fund component implement two grant competitive programs namely SME Growth Grants and Innovation Grants (Solve the Challenge). The Innovation grant offers small awards to interested SMEs to address sector specific challenges identified by SMEA. Under Innovation Grants, the eligible grant applicants are technically evaluated in the first phase of those, the shortlisted applicants progress to participate in the business development workshop. The selected semifinalists judged through their participation in the workshop will be assigned mentors for four weeks (based on their industry sector), who will assist by providing feedback to the application participants. The mentors only act as advisors for the applicants to finalize the detailed business plan.

Responsibilities:

Under the given assignment, the sector expert mentor will be responsible for performing each task / activity related to the assignment as directed by the Challenge Fund team lead and/or his designee. All the activities performed by the sector expert mentor must be in line with the awarded contract and scope of work. The sector expert mentor will perform the activity by keeping in view the business protocols/scope and quality parameters defined in the contract as per Chemonics policies.

1.     Specific Tasks of the Consultants:

 

The specific tasks under this consultancy include;

  1. Meet with SMEA senior management and the CF team to understand the specific requirements of the scope of work and design the training program.
  2. Participate in one-day business development workshops to be organized in three cities i-e Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi.
  3. Evaluate grant applicants involved in the business development workshop based on the pre-defined criteria.
  4. Provide post workshop evaluation sheets for each applicant.
  5. Provide four weeks of mentorship i-e 01 day in a week per applicant for business plan development

Level of Effort

  • Bachelors/Master’s degree in Business Administration/ and other relevant field to Logistics Sector.
  • At least 10 years of sector relevant experience.
  • Excellent oral and written English language skills

No. Positions: 1

10 to 40 days depending upon the no. of cases received and shortlisted for a certain sector. (Cumulative for the three workshops as per the plan tabulated under section-11 Deliverables)

3.     Workspace and Use of Personal Laptop and Software(s):

 

The experts will be required to use his/her own personal laptop. Thus, he/she must certify that all software used is genuine and licensed.

4.     Reporting:

 

The expert will report to the Challenge Fund Manager or any other designated staff. He / She will work closely with relevant members of the SMEA CF team.

 

5.     Duration of the Assignment:

 

The activities are planned within March - June 2020. Specific dates will be agreed upon through mutual consent and in line with the approved work.
