EOI – Trainer for delivery of training to SMEs & Startups on Food & Nutrition Business

 

     I.        About Project

 

NutriBiz aims to empower SMEs working in the areas of food, nutrition and agriculture and harness  innovative solutions for improved nutrition by connecting SMEs in Pakistan with technical assistance and investment opportunities.

TiE Islamabad, the SUN Business Network and partners aim to showcase a deal flow of nutrition related investments from SMEs that can catalyze innovation in local food systems and improve the affordability and accessibility of nutritious and safe foods for low income consumers across Pakistan.

-               Food Design: How can your business offer an innovative solution to develop or introduce new, affordable and nutritious products for local vulnerable populations?

-               Post-Harvest Loss Reduction: How can your business offer an innovative solution to reduce post-harvest losses along the supply chain and ensure the retention of nutrients in nutritious food? 

-               Market Connectivity: How can your business offer an innovative solution to improve the linkage between the supply, demand and distribution of affordable nutritious food to especially remote populations? 

-               Food Safety: How can your business offer an innovative solution to ensure food safety along the supply chain to improve the local consumption of safe and nutritious foods?

   II.        Request for Proposal

 

TIE Islamabad is looking to deliver nutrition awareness training to SMEs & Startups in Pakistan. Through this training the businesses are expected to acquire a working understanding of basic nutrition and the local food system.

Training Required: Basic Nutrition Principles

Summary

TIE Islamabad is seeking a service provider with background and experience in nutrition to conduct a 3-day training to a maximum of 15 business representatives to guide participants on basic nutrition principles and the role/opportunities for businesses in local food systems.

 

TIE Islamabad in collaboration with GAIN has already put together a standard training manual, trainer’s guide, knowledge assessment document and PowerPoint presentation that will support the delivery of the training[1]. All the training materials are in English

Specific Deliverables

At the end of the training, the participants (start-ups and established businesses) should understand the following:

 

  • Basic nutrition and how processing can affect the nutritional value of products.
  • How to unpack the food system and how they can contribute toward building a healthy food system.
  • How to identify and defend the nutritional merits of their product/service offering and where there are significant shortfalls, be able to identify these gaps as potential areas of investment e.g. product reformulation to reduce sugar/salt, investment in cold rooms to reduce post-harvest loss.
  • Can identify and estimate the nutritional impact a business can have on vulnerable population target groups e.g. (i) infants/ young children (> 6 months), school children, adolescents, pregnant and lactating women, or ii) the general population.

 

Deliverables:

  • Conduct the training and share a detailed report on the training with outcomes, discussions and photos of activities.
  • The service provider shall prepare and administer pre and post training assessments to check the baseline and gauge the impact following the completion of the training. 

 

 

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

The applicant should possess the academic qualification(s) necessary to successfully execute the assignment, including advanced university degree in food sciences and nutrition, or a related field.

 

Experience:

  • Experience in designing and delivering nutrition awareness training for SMEs in the agribusiness, food and nutrition sectors
  • Access to experienced and available trainers, specialized in nutrition and agriculture

 

Budget

This is a competitive process; the winning bid will be determined based on price and the quality of proposal

III.        Purpose of the Assignment

TIE Islamabad is therefore seeking to engage a service provider to conduct a three-day training on basic nutrition principles using standard training manuals that have been already developed.
