The Horticultural Advancement Activity (THAzA)

Request for Applications (RFA) # SFPNB-005/2019

Supporting Fruit Plant Nursery Business in Balochistan & Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

‘The Horticultural Advancement Activity’ (THAzA) is a 5-year project awarded by USAID and implemented by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations. THAzA focuses on selected horticultural value chains in Balochistan and in the selected Newly Merged Districts (NMDs) of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (previously called FATA). The objectives of THAzA are to create jobs and generate income, through increased productivity and quality, improved marketing and access to services and investments in horticultural value chains.

THAzA intends to extend grant support on cost sharing basis for the establishment of new and improvement of existing fruit plant nurseries in selected districts of Balochistan (Killa Saifullah, Kalat and Ziarat) and NMDs of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (Orakzai, Kurram, North and South Waziristran).

These will be in-kind grants wherein FAO will procure varieties of quality fruit plants and other items (including production tools) and deliver these at each grantee’s site. Selected grantees will be required to invest into the activity by covering all other cost components of the activity budget, including acquisition cost of land and civil work. THAzA grant support offer is limited to fruit plant nursery businesses located / planned specifically within the selected districts of Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Through this RFA, FAO invites progressive growers and agri-entrepreneurs / investors who are interested to invest in the proposed business, to apply for THAzA grants. Women entrepreneurs are highly encouraged to take advantage of a further reduced cost sharing requirement.

For further details regarding this RFA, including application form, interested applicants may either download the attached RFA or obtain copies from the FAO / THAzA Provincial offices in Quetta and Peshawar. For ease of access, RFA will also be made available through the relevant District Agricultural Extension Office.
