PURPOSE OF THE POST:


The ICRC’s public communication plays a key role in its mission to ensure respect for the life and dignity of people affected by natural or man-made disasters.

The Communications department drives, support and supervises the ICRC’s efforts to connect with relevant audiences in variety of ways including through face to face interactions, mass media, and production and promotion of print and audio-visual material.

The communications officer role, based in Islamabad, is responsible for designing, planning and implementing communication projects and building the necessary acceptance and support for the ICRC among general public.

                                                                                                                                                                   

REQUIREMENTS:

 

  • University degree or equivalent in a relevant field such as communications, political science, international relations or journalism.

  • 05 year experience of working in a humanitarian organization and/or media

  • Demonstrated capability of writing policy/research papers, opinions and editorials in leading national and international newspaper and journals.

  • Fluent spoken and written English and Urdu.

  • Computer skills (proficiency in MS Office); familiarity with online and social media communication tools.

  • Ability to work in a team but also independently

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Responsible for analysis of the environment, especially on social, political, cultural, and humanitarian issues – through publicly available information sources.

  • Responsible for compiling, editing and sharing monthly reports, fact sheets, newsletters, articles and other written content for the ICRC in Pakistan

  • Supports the Head of Communications in networking with relevant stakeholders and represents the ICRC to the various audiences

  • Support communications and public relations department in handling media relations

  • Works closely with the Head of Communications to implement the yearly plan of action and ensures integration of priority themes in to different departments.
