About GEC

The Girls’ Education Challenge (GEC) was launched by the UK’s Department for International Development in 2012. It aims to help up to a million of the world’s poorest girls improve their lives through education by finding better ways to get girls in school and ensuring they receive the best opportunities in life. It is the largest global fund dedicated to girls’ education.

GEC in Pakistan

This is an exciting opportunity to work on incorporating two new projects on Girls’ Education in Pakistan into the GEC portfolio. The GEC has two projects working in Pakistan, which aim to improve learning opportunities and outcomes for over 40,500 of the country's most marginalised girls. Access to good quality education will give these girls the chance of a better future for themselves, their families and their communities. The areas of Pakistan (which include Sindh and Baluchistan) in which the GEC projects will operate are subject to extreme poverty and parents can find it difficult to meet education-related costs for their children.

Portfolio Manager (PM)

The PM will oversee the incorporation of two new projects in Pakistan transition from inception to implementation phases to deliver well against planned activities and targets, and manage the FM relationship with projects. There will also be opportunities for the successful candidate to support on broader GEC projects in other contexts: 40% of the role will be focused on providing additional support across the GEC portfolio, working with a network of eight other portfolio managers based in GEC countries in South Asia and across Sub-Saharan Africa.
