Purpose of the role

CABI Central & West Asia is implementing “Safer Food through Aflatoxin control in Pakistan”. This program will use a cutting-edge technology that works to eliminate aflatoxin in the fields, where it affects up to 25% of all crops grown. The project is being implemented with collaboration of various partners from National Agricultural Research Centre (NARC) and Rafhan Maize Products (Pvt) Ltd.

The purpose of this role is to ensure the effective and efficient accounting and management reporting for centrally allocated projects. To support the Finance Coordinator with the review of CABI’s externally funded projects

Key Accountabilities

  • Responsible for the monthly reporting, variance analysis and KPI’s for active projects, ensuring accurate and timely submissions.
  • Responsible for reviewing and issuing the utilizations reports to project managers, ensuring any required adjustments are accurately completed within the deadline.
  • Ensure new projects are set up correctly, including donor contracts, Project Initiation Documents (PIDs) and Project Financial Analysis (PFAs).
  • Prepare monthly, ad hoc reports and analysis to enhance understanding of the performance of the Projects.
  • Assist the Senior Accountant with all audit requirements, donor reporting and monthly Programme and Project income accruals.
  • Provide first line support to Programme and Project Managers and Regional Office Finance Staff.
  • Assist in accounting, budgeting and re-forecasting processes for externally funded Projects
  • •Ensure good financial controls and compliance with CABI accounting procedures to satisfy audit requirements

Candidate profile

  • Graduate with specialisation in Finance having 5 years related experience or Master degree with specialization in Finance with 3 years related experience.
  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken.

Previous Experience

  • Experience of project accounting and reporting within an international context.
  • Experience of budgeting, monitoring and reporting.
  • Proficient in the use of a wide range of IT packages, including Word, Excel, Outlook and accountancy system.

Purpose of the role:        

CABI Central & West Asia is implementing “Safer Food through Aflatoxin control in Pakistan”. This program will use a cutting-edge technology that works to eliminate aflatoxin in the fields, where it affects up to 25% of all crops grown. The project is being implemented with collaboration of various partners from National Agricultural Research Centre (NARC) and Rafhan Maize Products (Pvt) Ltd.

Selected candidate will be responsible to maintain and support computer communication networks within CABI Rawalpindi and project sites.  The goal is to ensure the smooth operation of communication networks of the Project in order to provide maximum performance and availability for the Project users.

Key accountabilities:

  • Installing, supporting and maintaining Project IT technical infrastructure including firewalls, servers, backups, operating systems, networks, FTP and inventory thereof etc;
  • Maintaining the communications network including internet access, email administration and connections for Project staff;
  • Providing 3rd/final line support to all project staff and 3rd/final line support for mission critical applications and servers;
  • Undertaking routine preventative measures and implementing, maintaining and monitoring network security including anti-virus, anti-spyware and operating system patch installation and upgrades for all systems
  • Creating and maintaining all IT ‘systems management’ documentation including a maintenance register
  • Setting up user accounts, permissions and passwords;
  • Monitoring network usage;
  • Ensuring the most cost-effective and efficient use of servers/Project systems;
  • Suggesting and providing IT solutions to business and management and project problems; inclusive of supporting procurement by getting the most cost-effective solutions and preparing documentation for presentation to the procurement committee.
  • Analysing and resolving faults, whether it is a major system crash or a forgotten password;
  • Providing training and technical support for users with varying levels of IT knowledge and competence to the project staff;
  • Maintaining project data/outputs on the servers.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

Education & Qualifications

  • Degree, MCP’s or equivalent in a Computing Engineering or related subject with 5 years proven commercial systems engineering experience;

Experience

  • Proven experience of configuring network cabling, switches, routers & hubs for connectivity on an Ethernet network;
  • Strong VPN, data communications experience with extensive TCP/IP and routing knowledge (OSPF, BGP, EIGRP, RIP);
  • Proven experience of supporting Microsoft Server 2003/2008 operating systems;
  • High level of expertise in Microsoft Exchange and Active Directory;
  • Experience of customer service and desktop applications

Key Accountabilities

  1. Develop new ways of collecting field data for ground trothing satellite images with the University of Manchester
  2. Identify sources of historical data and translate it into suitable data format for combination with remote sensing data
  3. Work with satellite data team to ensure appropriate and useful datasets are being generated
  4. Develop new methodologies for analysing weed abundance and estimated abundance data
  5. Assist with development and implementation of field data hardware and software
  6. Work with the Manchester team to aggregate ground data with satellite images
  7. Utilise the dataset generated for new and improved methods of modelling Parthenium habitat suitability
  8. Develop new understanding of Parthenium’s spread in Pakistan - mechanisms, rates and potentially identify at-risk areas.

  10. Support Best Practice Solutions operations of the Action on Invasives programme in Pakistan

CANDIDATE PROFILE

We are seeking a person with research experience in any reputed organization with Ph.D or M.Phil/MS in GIS/Remote Sensing or any relevant qualification

Essential skills

  • Strong research interest in ecology or agricultural biology
  • Experience of using Geographical Information Systems for geospatial analysis
  • Experience of developing field data collection programmes
  • Programming skills for geospatial data analysis (e.g. R, Python, Matlab or similar software etc.)

Job title: Producer Unit Manager (No. of Post 2)

Location:  Sanghar/Mirpurkhas

Purpose of the role: 

CABI Central & West Asia is implementing ‘Better Cotton Projects” in areas of lower Sindh-Pakistan for sustainable production and improved quality of cotton under Decent Work conditions. The project objectives are 1) To achieve Better Cotton aims across the social, environmental and economic aspects of cotton production 2) To achieve impact and bring Better Cotton to scale in relation to all 3 primary KPIs: farmers trained and licensed, hectares licensed, BC MT tons produced and licensed 3) To develop partnerships with governments, trade associations or other national scale entities to adopt the BCI principles and contribute for success of project.

The selected candidates for these positions would be responsible for implementation of project plans at assigned sites under guidance of Project Manager and with the support of Training M&E and QA Manager. These positions are initially to be recruited for ten months (01 June 2019 to 31 March 2020) with six months of probation period; however, the successful candidates based on satisfactorily performance are expected to be continued up to extension of project.

Key accountabilities:

  • Work under the guidance and supervision of Project Manager, Training M&E and QA Manager/Project Coordinator.
  • Prepare the detailed plan for implementation of Better Cotton Standard System (BCSS) for the Producer Unit.
  • Capacity building of Field Facilitators for implementation of Better Cotton Standard System (BCSS) at farm/Learning Group level.
  • Ensure the achievement of KPIs settled for Producer Unit in terms of number of farmers, cotton acreage and tonnage of seed cotton production with the help of Field Facilitators.
  • Field visits/meetings with farmers for monitoring, verification, capacity building and backstopping.
  • Ensure the necessary documentation and trainings record maintenance at Farm and Producer Unit level.
  • Develop the cotton farmer’s guidance material for Better Cotton production.
  • Prepare and submit activity reports to line manager.
  • Prepare and compile the technical reports of registered cotton growers to study impact of the activities.
  • Facilitate the Women Trainer/Women Village Trainer to conduct cotton picking and decent work trainings training female farm workers of Producer Unit.
  • Conduct the self-assessment for Producer Unit.
  • Facilitate the shadow Self-Assessment, Credibility check by IP & BCI, 3rd party verifications process.
  • Collection of seed cotton data (available and sold) and sharing with Better Cotton Initiative.
  • Preparation, verification and submission of Result Indicator Report (RIR) for farmers.
  • Organize and conduct meetings, workshops, seminars, visits, and briefings.
  • Any other assignments required for satisfactory completion of the key role requirements.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

Education & Qualifications

  • Candidates should have earned M.Sc. (Hons) degree in Agriculture or a related field.

Experience

  • Candidates from Sindh province with certificate of Training of Facilitators (ToF) and having experience with Farmer Field School (FFS) approach will be given preference.
  • Strong understanding of cotton production technology and its sustainability issues.
  • Willingness for field visits to interiors of lower Sindh for meetings with farmers.
  • Proven networking, team-building, organizational and communication skills
  • Experience and ability to work under pressure and within limited timeframes
