The Executive Director oversees program, operations, financial and legal/tax related matters of the organization. S/he should have high level strategic and analytical skills to develop and design strategic/business plans in order to ensure organizational sustainability, competitiveness and financial viability.  S/he is responsible for leading staff in pursuit of organizational outcomes, bringing them together to deliver high-quality, cost-effective programming results with high levels of accountability. Also, s/he is responsible to actively work to expand the geographical scope of the organization.

The Executive Director is expected to have strong skills in business development and management including:

  • quality management,
  • ensuring transparency and accountability,
  • stewardship of resources,
  • staff safety and security,
  • performance management,
  • liaising and external representation.

The Executive Director is the organization’s principal representative to government agencies/officials, non-governmental actors, international organizations, NGOs and the media and is required to have a demonstrated record of fund raising and networking.

Success in this position requires demonstrated leadership abilities with strong communications and interpersonal skills. The successful candidate will enjoy developing networks to build partnerships and diversify program resources. S/he will be directly responsible for the overall strategic direction and management; providing oversight and coaching to senior managers; leading teams to identify, design and deliver responsive, high-quality programs; ensuring efficient management of public and private funds for results, increase business, compliance, and focused, timely reporting to Board and oversight of financial management and compliance systems.

Demonstrated Technical Skills:

Superior communication skills, verbal and written, in English.

Proven ability to negotiate and work with partner organizations. Experience with organizational capacity strengthening and partnership building helpful.

Strong budget and fiscal oversight capacities.

Extensive representation and fundraising success, including prior experience with National and International Organizations.

Ability to respond to multiple priorities in a timely manner, producing high-quality outcomes.

Demonstrated Managerial/Leadership Competencies:

Experience building personal networks at a senior level, resulting in securing new opportunities for the organization.

Demonstrated successful leadership and management experience with a multi-disciplinary team in cross-cultural settings, including active mentoring and coaching.

Effective in developing high-potential staff to achieve career growth and maximum contribution.

Proven experience delivering appropriate levels of oversight of a portfolio consisting of a variety of complex, high-value donor-funded projects.

Opportunity-awareness. A successful, innovative approach to unpredictable programming, operation, and funding contexts.

Ability to dispassionately represent program context, constraints, and successes to media, government, and other senior audiences.

Languages Required/Preferred:

Professional fluency in written and spoken English.

Computer/Other Tech Requirements:

Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite, especially Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.

Working knowledge of file sharing protocols such as Dropbox, SharePoint, etc., an advantage.

Ability to Travel: 

within the region for supervision/monitoring, mentoring, workshops representation and conferences, business development meetings, etc.

 

Years of experience: in similar senior position 12 to 15 years

Qualification: MBA and related masters
