World Learning (WL) is seeking a National & Alumni Coordinator to support the implementation of the Afghan Young Leaders Exchange Program (AYLEP). The goal of AYLEP is to foster the next generation of Afghan leaders by developing their leadership skills and capacity in fields such as governance, civil society, and economic growth. This will be achieved through an annual U.S. exchange program that exposes Afghan participants to experts, innovators, and activists in their respective fields as well as to U.S. political, social, and economic systems. 

 

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate participant travel to/from the U.S. for 5 groups of 10 participants per year for three years
  • Research and provide input on actual costs for in-country travel and accommodations and logistics as needed to support acquisition of visas and out-bound and return travel for participants
  • Be the key liaison between participants and WL HQ
  • Serve as point person for WL HQ in cost determination for in-country activities and participant reimbursements
  • Assist participants through the visa process, including liaising with different ministries and the U.S. Embassy to meet visa acquisition requirements and participant needs
  • Assist WL in scheduling and coordinating processes for pre-departure engagement and communications with participants
  • Assist participants in arranging in-country travel and hotel accommodations in Kabul as needed before departure and when returning home
  • Track and help ensure participants are following processes for U.S. visas and other travel planning for the 3-week exchanges which will include ongoing communications with participants during the pre-departure time frame
  • Support pre-departure preparation including email or WhatsApp based exchange preparation and conducting Pre-departure Orientation meetings using PDO materials and handouts developed by WL
  • Work with WL to develop an outreach, communication, and engagement strategy to build and support the network of AYLEP alumni
  • Assist WL in supporting alumni projects and alumni leaders in Afghanistan
  • Manage all logistics and support needed to develop and implement the national alumni events
  • Serve as a point of contact for the U.S. Embassy in Kabul
  • Submit monthly reports on program and alumni activities to WL HQ
  • Submit monthly expense reports with backup receipts and invoices and monthly advances in a timely manner

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum 5 years of work experience
  • Experience working with and communicating with the U.S. Embassy or U.S. funding agencies
  • Experience working with and in civil society and governance in Afghanistan
  • Working knowledge and experience supporting international education, exchange or development programs.
  • Demonstrated local knowledge of systems and processes related to U.S. visa application processes and international travel logistics for sponsored participants.
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating with individuals and establishing systems for communication and project management.
  • Excellent English speaking and writing capabilities.
