Company Overview:


The British High Commission works with the Pakistani Government and range of partners and stakeholders to secure progress and support on a range of issues which are key to UK interests from international and regional security agendas to the promotion of good governance , democracy and human rights in Pakistan. The British High Commission is looking for potential candidates for the post of "Political Officer" to work as part of the political team. The High Commission offers the successful candidate a comprehensive training package, development of key professional skills and the opportunity to work in a welcoming, cohesive team made up of locally engaged an UK-based staff

 

Relevant Experience:

3 years + job related experience (description below). Experience analysing and reporting on political issues and/or in journalism (political or economic) is essential.

Job Description:

  • To provide oral and written analysis, research and advice to the British High Commission Political team on domestic political issues - particularly parliamentary business, political personalities and parties, provincial politics (in Punjab and AJK) and other influencers of power.
  • To maintain a wide network of contacts and links with a range of politicians, government officials and civil society organisations, including attending and reporting on conferences and regular visits to Lahore and Mirpur.
  • To deliver research on thematic political, economic and security issues, for example, radicalisation, local government, elections, Kashmir and Pakistan’s links to the UK.
  • To advise on High Commission programmes to strengthen democratic systems.

Skills

  • Strong interpersonal & communication skills
  • Political acumen and understanding of basic economics
  • Fluency in written and spoken English, including proven track record of submitting written English reports
  • Ability to spot trends, solve problems and think creatively
  • Good IT skills, including internet research

  • Excellent team player
