Teacher Trainers Required for Integrated Quality Education Project Phase-II, Shangla and Kohistan Districts

Context:

In 2014, CRS and its local partner Indus Social Welfare and Development Organization (ISWDO) launched a three-year education project for improving access and quality of primary education in five UCs of Shangla and Kohistan districts of KP Province. One component of the project focused extensively on working with government primary school’s teachers to improve their skills and capacity on teaching techniques as well as subject contests of English, Math and Science, through trainings, mentoring visits, and peer group work. CRS/ISWDO staff is regularly providing on job support to the teachers through mentoring visits. During these mentoring visits to the schools, CRS/ ISWDO staff observed that teachers in the targeted schools are struggling with teaching some of the core concepts of English, Math’s and Science to the students, especially to the upper grade (3-5) in the targeted schools.  

 

Therefore, CRS/ISWDO intends to organize 6 days’ refresher training covering the selected contents of three subjects (English, Math’s and Science) for the targeted male and female teachers separately at the same time on these core subjects, as there will be separate training for male and female teachers, Therefore, male and female teacher’s trainers are required for these training.


Teacher Training objectives and Expected Results:

(1)    The selected teacher trainer will be responsible for review of existing training manual on English, Math and Science for grade 3-5 for government primary school teachers with project team.

(2)    Teacher trainer will execute this 6 days Training to government primary school teachers’ in Besham on the selected contents of English, Math and Science of grade 3-5.

(3)    The consultants will submit a detail narrative report on the training with his/her recommendation.

 

Required Date:

 

The teacher training will take place in Besham for a total duration of six (6) days. Trainer is expected to arrive one week before the training to work with the CRS/ISWDO Education Team to finalize training resources and review the training plan.

 

Methodology:

 

The training should be interactive and participatory based on the adult learning theories. There should be a mix of lectures, exercises, group work; practical examples & practice in controlled environment.

Language for workshop materials and facilitation is desired to be Urdu. The training contents for each should include the following. 

Co-facilitator:

Since the training will be for three subjects, English, Math’s and Science, Therefore the trainer can engage the subject specialist for each subject along with himself/herself for the training. However, He/She must submit the CVs of co-facilitator to CRS before the Interview. CRS reserve the right to reject the CV of co-facilitator.

 

English:

Teacher practice and modeling:

Teacher trainer should have sessions that allow teachers to practice their skills and knowledge in peer groups. Each day, after introducing 1-4 new concepts, time should be set aside for teachers to apply new concepts through lesson modeling and peer review.

 

Practical Demonstrations:

Participants should be able to transform the learning into the practical use. For this purpose, the trainer should provide a demonstration of teaching each concept as an example for the participants.

Outputs/Deliverables

(1)    Provide copy of draft teacher training manual/s and lessons to CRS Education Team during the time of interview for review and feedback (incase already available) 

(2)    Collaborate with CRS Education Team through Skype or phone to make modifications/changes to training plan

(3)    Meet in-person with CRS education Team to review the training plan and finalize all training resources and manual

(4)    Conduct 6 days’ teacher training in Besham town with approximately 28 government primary school teachers

(5)    Provide CRS and teachers with soft copies of all resources used during the training (to be shared with teachers)

 

 After one week the consultant will submit a first draft of narrative report to CRS for feedback. Then the consultant will submit a final draft, incorporating all feedback, within three weeks of training completion. The report will cover each day activity, pre and post test results as well as recommendations for future

 

Consultant Qualifications

 

  1. Bachelor's Degree in Education/social science, or Master’s degree in English will be an asset 
  2. At least 2-3 years of previous experience as a teacher trainer
  3. Fluency in English
  4. Demonstrated knowledge of Pakistan Government curriculum for primary school education
  5. Demonstrated knowledge on interactive, teaching techniques
  6. Already-developed manuals will be a plus
  7. Previous experience working with international NGOs a plus
