Project Description:

This project will support Pakistani-led efforts to introduce and institutionalize improvements in reading instruction and reading assessment in grades one through five in public and private schools throughoutPakistan.


Terms of Reference

He/she will have the following primary responsibilities:

  • Proof, edit and format read ten course guides of approximately 1200 pages
  • Read content and correct for errors in spelling, punctuation, and grammar

  • Contextualize materials with respect to gender

  • Sub-editing text written by a number of writers to ensure consistent style

  • Shaping up the final product on shared template, Allocate space for the text, photos, and illustrations that make up a story

  • Coding manuscripts for design features, such as hierarchy of headings

  • Working to a style (shared template) checklist to ensure consistency in hyphenation, capitalization, linking, bookmarking, formatting of references, etc.,

  • Retrieving/downloading articles/material from archives (provided links) and rearranging within course guides

  • Ensuring that all link/references provided in the course guides are working

  • Once the courses have been copy-edited and laid out, the editor will perform one or more rounds of proofreading, checking spelling and share a final print ready copy of material.

 

Required Skills & Qualifications

The desired candidate should have:

 

  • Master’s degree in English, Education, Curriculum Development, Journalism.

  • A thorough knowledge and practice of standard English writing 

  • Excellent writing kills in English

  • Strong editing/proofreading skills in English

  • Proven working experience as an editor

  • Hands on experience with MS Office and InDesign, Photoshop or other publishing tools

  • An eye for detail along with critical thinking

  • Candidates having similar past experience of editing and proof reading books/course guides, etc. will be given a preference.

 

Note: This is a 6 weeks consultancy, based in Islamabad. 

 

Deliverable: Proof read and edit 5 integration and 5 discipline courses.
