PROGRAM BACKGROUND:

 

Pakistan Reading Project will improve the quality of reading in public and private schools across all of Pakistan; supporting at least 2.5 million additional primary school students to read at all level commensurate with standards at their grade level by the three mutually reinforcing components of teacher education and professional development, systems reform and civil society engagement.

 

Job Summary:

The Cook’s primary responsibility is to prepare meals and snacks for staff, Serve tea/coffee to staff and official guests and keep kitchen premises and kitchen utensils clean and tidy.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Plan for meals and snacks within given budgets; procure food items at best quality and best price.
  • Cooking and preparing a variety of fresh nutritious meals and other refreshments.
  • Having a ‘hands on’ approach to all areas of the kitchen and possessing excellent organizing and administrative skills.
  • Determine how food should be presented, and create decorative food displays.
  • Account for expenditures, providing supporting valid and authentic receipts.
  • Prepare and serve meals and snacks, as scheduled.
  • Maintain good hygiene and cleanliness in food preparation.
  • Store food properly.
  • Organize and maintain the kitchen, kitchen equipment, cooking utensils and dishes in good, complete and clean order.
  • The cook will have to work on Saturdays and occasionally on Sundays or as and when required.
  • Report all necessary kitchen equipment requests timely to the office administration on given forms for this purpose.
  • Participate in professional training and development activities, as needed or requested.
  • Perform other duties, as needed or requested.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

Education:

  • Basic education at middle level or preferably up to Matric.

 

Work Experiences:

  • Eager to learn new recipes and cooking techniques.
  • Previous experience of working with an international organization/project is preferable.
  • Previous experience and/or training as a cook.

 

Demonstrated Skills:

  • Good health and personal hygiene.
  • Demonstrated cooking skills.
  • Responsiveness to direction and willingness to learn.

Note: While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally be required to lift and/or move up to 20-25 pounds.
