Pakistan Regional Economic Integration Project

IT Specialist

Background:

The Pakistan Regional Economic Integration Activity (PREIA) is intended to further the development of the country’s trade sector by improving Pakistan’s competitiveness in international markets. The Activity is a key component of USAID Pakistan’s overall economic development program and supports achievement of Development Objective #2 from USAID/Pakistan’s Mission Strategy: “Improving Economic Status of Focus Populations.” The purpose of the Activity is to increase access to international and in particular regional markets in order to enhance Pakistan’s regional economic integration with its neighbors. Focusing primarily on trade promotion and facilitation, PREIA will improve the international trade environment, resulting in increased trade and transit volumes.

General Objective:

The Information Technology (IT) Specialist is responsible for the IT needs of the Islamabad Office, including system installations, maintenance, support and technical consultations to clients. S/he is responsible for ensuring that standards set by the DAI home office are followed and project solutions are the most efficient and cost effective. Responsibilities also include assisting in the setup, maintenance and troubleshooting of the LANs (Local Area Networks) at the project office. Responsible for the setup, maintenance and troubleshooting of client computers and peripherals such as printers and scanners. S/he will ensure that proper back up, anti-virus and disaster recovery procedures are identified and followed and that end users have access to shared files, printers and to email.  Other duties as assigned from time to time by the supervisor.

General Duties: 

Specific Objectives and Duties:

The IT Specialist will be responsible for the following detailed tasks, but not limited to:

  • Local network maintenance and installation including cabling, switches/hubs and NIC configuration TCP/IP, NAT, TCP/IP printing, windows network and domain services on TCP/IP ;
  • WAN connectivity and maintenance (Internet connection and services,
  • Travel to provincial offices as required
  • Setup of E-mail accounts using IBM Lotus Notes 9.x
  • Server and server application maintenance and installation (Hardware integration, Windows 2008 server installation and maintenance, LAN and WAN connectivity, Lotus Domino and messaging system, FTP services, Antivirus Protection Corporate edition installation and maintenance;
  • Client computer hardware and application installation and configuration, maintenance. Laptops, Desktops, MS Windows XP, MS Office Pro, Lotus Notes and other mail clients, Symantec AV and other project software;
  • User support
  • Manage all software and hardware inventory
  • Check systems in order to optimize performance and to initiate recovery action after system failures.
  • Make suggestions for network hardware and software system improvements.
  • Create and Maintain effective inventory of IT and communication equipments.
  • Provide assistance in procurement and evaluation of all IT technical equipment
  • Advise in procurement process and assist with IT Inventory

 

Qualifications & Experience:

  • PC and Server support experience, especially with Windows Server & Windows Client operating systems.
  • LAN, WAN. PBX and VSAT knowledge and experience
  • MS applications, MS Office, MS Project
  • Common client applications such as Adobe Acrobat
  • Basic IT troubleshooting skills and experience
  • Experience or basic knowledge of Lotus Notes Client Administration, and replication within a WAN preferred.
  • Cisco administrative experience preferred.
  • 2 to 4 years of experience
  • Good working knowledge of English
  • Bachelors in IT, Masters will be preferred
