Position Summary:

The Gender and Youth Officer will provide technical and administrative support to the development of programs, policies and strategies on youth and gender.

Reporting & Supervision:

The Gender and Youth Officer reports to the Senior Field Coordinator and collaborates closely with the Agency Development Field Coordinators

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Advise field staff on incorporation of gender and youth strategies into programming and activity development

  • Liaise with HQ, government entities and other partners on gender and youth issues and best practices

  • Take initiative to reach marginalized and disadvantaged adolescents and youth, especially girls, by identifying potential partnerships that can address issues of particular concern, such as managing conflict in a non-violent manner and engaging in responsible decision-making;

  • Support activities which strengthen capacity of relevant government institutions and non-government organizations to implement national policies on gender, particularly through ensuring the needs of adolescents and youth are taken into account

  • Promote youth leadership and participation by increasing coordination and identifying potential partnerships with relevant stakeholders

  • Build networks of stakeholders working on gender and youth issues

 

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally be required to lift and/or move up to 20-25 pounds.

 

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Minimum relevant Bachelors’ degree or professional qualification essential

  • Minimum 2-4 years experience working on gender and youth issues

  • Minimum 2-4 years experience working with international organizations / NGOs essential

  • Competent in computers

  • Understanding of budget management preferable

  • Excellent written and spoken English and local languages

  • Donor program experience desirable

  • Grants program experience desirable

  • Ability to work under pressure and efficiently handle multiple tasks

  • Ability to work under own initiative or as a part of a team
