About the Organization

Pakistan Microfinance Network is the national level association of microfinance providers in the country. Its membership includes microfinance banks, microfinance institutions and NGOs. The Network works in three key areas for industry development a) acting as the knowledge hub for MF sector b) policy advocacy as sector representative at local and international level c) capacity building and institutional strengthening. Terms of Reference

Research and knowledge management is a core function of the network that has grown and expanded significantly over the past few years. PMN's publications and research are recognized globally for their high quality and relevance, and are widely quoted by local and international stakeholders. The Research Analyst will be responsible for strategically developing and further strengthening PMN's research work. 

The primary responsibilities of the RA are described below:

1.       Strategic Development & Management of PMN's Research Portfolio

2.       Management of Research Related Events

3.       Internal Governance and Management

  • Work with the PMN Research Committee to develop the organization's strategic plan for its research function
  • Engage in research (primary and secondary) on financial inclusion in Pakistan in key areas either internally or through engagement with appropriate consultants.
  • Author and publish MicroNotes as required (1-2 per year).
  • Prepare, oversee  and manage PMN research publications
  • Develop proposals to solicit research based consulting projects for PMN. Manage these projects, or support other PMN staff in their projects on relevant areas.
  • Conceptualize Round Tables and Policy Dialogues to disseminate findings of research studies and develop stakeholder relevant research outputs
  • Work in close collaboration with relevant PMN staff to plan and manage round table and policy events (only those that are related to the RA’s work)
  • Manage and oversee PMN's membership process
  • Manage the Islamic Microfinance Working Group.
  • Participate in Strategic Planning exercises for the industry and the PMN
  • Represent PMN at various forums as required

Any other work that is deemed necessary by the organization from time-to-time.

Who Should Apply?

Education and Experience

  • At least Master’s degree in Economics, Development Studies or related academic areas from a reputable academic institution. A degree with research focus would be preferred.
  • At least 3-5 years of professional experience that demonstrates a deep understanding of latest research methods in development and economics.
  •  Candidates that have led research teams, worked on large scale projects and published reports independently will be given preference.
  • Familiarity with microfinance inPakistanpreferable but not necessary

 Other Skills

  • The position involves extensive writing for a varied audience.  The applicant must have strong writing skills with the ability to tailor outputs for different types of stakeholders.
  • The RA is also expected to represent the network at various forums locally and internationally. The applicant must have strong presentation and verbal skills.  
  • The RA will be expected to provide strategic direction to this function within the Network under guidance and in collaboration with the PMN Research Committee. The applicant should thus have the ability to think strategically and innovatively, possess leadership skills and have the ability to work independently.
  • Proficient in Word, Excel and PowerPoint at least.
