Project Description:

The U.S.-Pakistan Partnership for Agricultural Market Development (AMD) activity in Pakistan is a USAID funded activity implemented by CNFA with the goal of supporting the development of Pakistan’s commercial agriculture, particularly through improving the ability of Pakistan’s agriculture and livestock sectors to meet both international and domestic demand and requirements in targeted product lines in citrus, mango, high value/off season vegetables and livestock. AMD’s targeted interventions such as training, matching grants, and technical assistance is aimed to leverage private sector investment and encourage innovation. Together, these interventions will upgrade and streamline supply chains, optimize profit margins, increase in horticulture produce export, enhancing participation of women entrepreneurs, and ultimately make Pakistani mango, citrus, meat and HV/OSV production and marketing more profitable and competitive.

Position Duties and Responsibilities:

 

This position will be based in Karachi. The STTA Value Chain and Marketing will coordinate all strategic value chain and marketing interventions to create and strengthen AMDs four target product lines: meats, high value vegetables, citrus and mango so that farmers can take advantage of opportunities for income growth and employment. The position will liaise with the marketing, monitoring & evaluation, value chain teams and will oversee all the activities primarily in Sindh and if required in Punjab. The coordinator will work to ensure that all interventions being carried out promote access to accurate information for all value chain actors, upgrade product quality and value adding activities, and identify strategic opportunities for private sector investment.

 

Specific Duties:

 

The value chain and marketing coordinator (Sindh) will be responsible for:

§  Assisting the Value chain, Livestock and Marketing Directors in developing and roll out strategy for program’s in Sindh and if required in Punjab and for setting out and monitoring key performance indicators in coordination with the M&E team;

§  Assisting the relevant Directors in the financial and operational planning of programs for the four AMD target product lines;

§  Coordinate and liaise for activities in Sindh with the value chain and marketing specialists that are working on AMDs four product lines, including work, planning, data collection and analysis.

§  Engaging and coordinating with AMDs grantees (investors) located in Sindh and if required in Punjab and working with key actors in the four product lines to improve buyer/seller relationships and formalize market transactions between producers and market intermediaries through strategic commercial partnerships and more vertically integrated product lines; and

§  Capacity building of producer organizations, agribusiness, and other product line and marketing actors, facilitating and increasing private sector investment, providing training and other business development services, and ensuring support services exist beyond the life of the project by taking a facilitative, commercially viable approach.

§  Coordinate and assist Financial Analysis in verifying each grantee’s cost share contribution

§  Coordinate with Procurement and vendors in expediting grant equipment delivery

§  Coordinate with Communications in branding grant equipment

§  Coordinate with vendor, grantee, Procurement, Grants and Finance in documentation of delivered grant equipment

§  Supervise BSPs in trainings of all value chain of AMD.

§  Assist Grants team in closing out of grants

§  Support Livestock sector activities when required, especially in developing linkages between processor, exporter and feedlot farmers

§  Assist M&E by reporting Weekly and Monthly achievements / progress / grant status updates

§  Assist M&E in reporting Annual Progress Report

§  Any other tasks assigned by the Supervisor

 

Supervision/Reporting:

The STTA Value Chain and marketing will report directly to the AMD Director Value Chain and will have direct reporting responsibilities to the Chief of Party. The position will coordinate all activities with the relevant Directors.

Working Conditions / Special Considerations:

§  The employee is expected to comply with the terms and conditions as noted in the letter of agreement with CNFA.

§  This assignment is based in Karachi, but the employee may have to travel to Lahore or Islamabad or any other place in Pakistan in the line of duty.

 

Qualifications:

§  Pakistani national;

§  A minimum of a Master’s degree in Business Management from a reputed institute;

§  10 years of regional and international experience of the Agriculture/commercial industry including animal procurement, feedlot fattening,  supply chain, cold-chain, meat processing, product development, meat retail, marketing, meat branding, and export;

§  Should have diversified experience and know-how of the development sector, multi-nationals as well as of a government department;

§  Demonstrated knowledge of the latest developments in advancing good / best practices in the value addition of agro products especially USAID’s work and development initiatives for the industry;

§  Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint;

§  Working knowledge of USAID policies, rules and regulations preferred;

§  Previous project work experience in Pakistan;

§  Fluent in English, both written and oral. Fluency in regional languages preferred.
