Summary:

These Terms of Reference are meant to engage a consultant to work with Provincial Nutrition Focal Point and with SELD Director on curriculum and textbook review and for development of nutrition material according to the need of books. The consultant will report to Advisor Health.

Background

The Sindh Community Mobilization Program (CMP) is a five-year program jointly funded by Government of Sindh and USAID implemented by Blumont . It commenced in August 2013, and forms a cornerstone of Sindh Basic Education Program (SBEP). CMP has four major components: 1) Increase communities’ involvement in the GOS reform of merging, consolidating, and upgrading schools; 2) Improve community and district administrations coordination for increased girls’ enrollment; 3) Improve child nutrition in selected communities and government schools through research that informs innovation and good practice; and, 4) Pilot component: Launch of the Education Management Organizations (EMO) system. In addition, CMP has three cross cutting themes that will significantly add value to these objectives; 1) Gender: Mainstreaming of program activities; 2) Water and sanitation (WATSAN): Improved facilities, knowledge and practice; and, 3) Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR): Improved awareness, knowledge, preparation, and practice. The program has been implemented in seven districts Khairpur, Dadu, Sukkur, Larkana, Kashmore, Jacobabad, and Qambar Shadadkot and five towns of Karachi (Lyari, Kemari, Orangi, Bin Qasim, and Gadap) in Sindh.

Under the Nutrition component CMP is working with Sindh Education Literacy Department for the integration of CMP work with SELD AAP program. CMP with the support of SELD is going to work on curriculum and textbook review with the nutrition perspective. CMP and SELD aims to improve the nutrition status of Sindh children through text books from grade 1 to 5. Integration of nutrition and hygiene in the text books will resulted on the good practices of nutrition and hygiene of school going children from the early grades.  

Objectives of the Assignment:

Curriculum review with nutrition perspective of subjects English, Urdu, Science, G. Knowledge, Social studies and Sindhi from class 1 to 5.

Textbook review with nutrition perspective of subjects English, Urdu, Science, G. Knowledge, Social Studies and Sindhi from class 1 to 5.

Development of relevant material for text books according to the need.

Integration of new material, feedback integration and finalization of new textbooks.

Final report.  

Scope of Work

The consultant will conduct a review of curriculum with nutrition and hygiene perspective from class 1 to 5 and provide feedback and recommendations for the integration of nutrition subject. After curriculum review the consultant will review the textbooks of English, Urdu, Science, Social Studies, G. Knowledge and Sindhi with nutrition and hygiene perspective from class 1 to 5. The Consultant will design and develop the material for the integration in textbooks according to the need.

Consultant has to follow the simplest approach to impart the contents with frequent use of local language. All the contents should be delivered by giving daily life examples and demonstrate the same where required.

Methodology:

The Consultant is responsible to review, gather, produce and collate the content for the curriculum and textbooks.  The Consultant will closely work with CMP Provincial Nutrition Focal Point and SELD Director. The Consultant is expected to review and develop nutrition and hygiene material according to the need and constantly take feedback to the SELD Director and CMP Nutrition Focal Point.

Core Competencies:

  • Must have Master degree in nutrition and health or relevant subject.
  • Proven and demonstrated experience in curriculum and textbook review.
  •  Excellent skills in material development for curriculum and text books.
  • At least 10 years’ experience of curriculum and text books review and material development.
  • Excellent report writing and presentation skills.
  • Fluent spoken and written English and Urdu and Sindhi.

Consultancy Duration & Duty Station:

The consultancy duration is One month and duty station will be in Karachi.
