Programme Overview:

Chemonics International Inc. seeks an experienced professional to undertake the role of Communications Officer for an anticipated DFID-funded, Pakistan Delivering Accelerated Family Planning Service Delivery (DAFPAK SD) programme. The £17m UK Government Department for International Development (DFID) Programme seeks to deliver effective family planning throughout Pakistan which currently has high numbers of unintended pregnancies and maternal deaths. The main objective of this program will be to strengthen the quality of public service provision through: training government health and family planning facility staff on integration of services, improving clinical quality, expanding the range of contraceptives offered, finding ways to offer client centred counselling, and establish new procedures in health facilities to better integrate family planning services with current services offered.

Job Description:

The Communications Officer will report to the Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) Specialist and oversee the project communications strategy and activities related to project outreach. As directed by the M&E Specialist and Team Leader, the Communications Officer will provide quality control on all reports, marketing materials, and other documents generated from the project office with particular emphasis on those for submission to DFID; collect content for weekly, monthly and quarterly status reports; drafts status reports for submission to the client; attend meetings with client and project partners on an ad hoc basis regarding communications, outreach, and media related issues, program deliverables and reports; and assist with planning, logistics and attends project events as requested by the Team Leader.

The Communications Officer will also provide technical editing and formatting assistance with program deliverables and reports; work closely with M&E Officer on tracking reports and deliverables as related to the monitoring and evaluation and program management plan; assist technical staff with public outreach/awareness campaigns; work with project partner organizations to assist them in developing and implementing communications strategies; and work with project partner organizations to assist them in engaging in campaigns to raise the public awareness.

This position is contingent upon funding.

Job Specifications: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in journalism, communications, publishing or similar area required; Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of relevant, professional experience in roles with increasing levels of responsibility required, seven+ years preferred.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe applications.
  • Working knowledge of DFID policies, rules and regulations preferred.
  • Previous project work experience in Pakistan.
  • Team player, with excellent organizational, training design and delivery, time management, and communication skills in English, both written and oral. Excellent Urdu, with regional language capability desirable.

Anticipated Duration of Project: Up to 3.5 years with a possibility of extension.
