Purpose of the post

 

The ICRC’s public communication plays a key role in its mission to ensure respect for the life and dignity of people affected by natural or man-made disasters.

 

The Communication and Public Relations Department drives, support and supervises the ICRC’s efforts to connect with relevant audiences in variety of ways including through face to face interactions, mass media, and production and promotion of print and audio-visual material.

 

The communications officer role, based in Islamabad, is responsible for designing, planning and implementing communication projects and building the necessary acceptance and support for the ICRC among general public.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field such as communications, political science, international relations, journalism and other related social sciences disciplines.

  • Minimum three years’ work experience in a field relevant to communications.

  • Excellent writing and editing skills.

  • Excellence in English language with an ability to create content in Urdu when required.

  • S/he is a creative, flexible, forward-looking, dynamic, empathetic, solution-oriented, and innovative person.

  • S/he is proficient and enthusiastic about social media and a user of multiple digital platforms either professionally or personally.

  • S/he has a good understanding and knowledge of political and social environment in Pakistan, international relations and current events.

  • S/he is flexible in terms of working hours, able to work under pressure and within tight deadlines.

  • S/he is dedicated to the mission of the ICRC and the role of humanitarianism in digital conversations.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for analysis of the environment, especially on social, political, cultural, and humanitarian issues – through publically available information sources.

  • Responsible for managing, organizing and distributing the communication stock and other dissemination material.

  • Responsible for compiling and sharing the monthly operational reports of the ICRC in Pakistan.

  • Supports the Head of Communications in networking with relevant stakeholders and represents the ICRC to the various audiences.

  • Provides technical and administrative support to the communication team (e.g. filing, event organization, etc.) when required.

  • Translates documents and conversations from English into Urdu and vice versa.

  • Work closely with the head of communications and public relations to develop an integrated and coherent approach to communications, using media and other public engagement activities. 

  • Support communications and public relations department in handling media relations
