Chemonics International seeks an Intern for Business Enabling Environment Component  (BEE) under USAID Small and Medium Enterprises Activity (SMEA). Chemonics International is implementing Pakistan Small and Medium Enterprise Activity (SMEA), which is aimed at improvement of financial and operating performance of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Pakistan in selected high-performing industrial, manufacturing and services sectors. 

BEE Internship:

SMEA’s BEE Component is in the process of undertaking various reform initiatives by developing and implementing support across all the four Provinces of the country. In light of the varied nature of assistance being provided to the Provincial Governments and their nominated Departments, the BEE Component requires support of a Short-Term Assistant/Intern.  The intern will gain experience working on a development program by assisting the BEE team with background research, designing and developing requisite regulatory, legal and institutional support, managing consultants working with the team executing their respective assignments and ensuring smooth implementation of the programmatic activities indicated in the project’s workplan.

Responsibilities :

The BEE Intern will assist the BEE team in the implementation of project activities for necessary for the timely and successful completion of the BEE Project workplan tasks and the achievement of component goals and objectives, including:

  • Assisting the BEE team in managing and supervising the tasks and deliverables of the consultants working on various interventions.
  • Assisting in developing write-ups, presentations, activity brief’s, scopes of work and all other technical documentations as directed and advised by the BEE team.
  • Supporting the team in generating travel requests for the consultants and ensuring all such requests are communicated effectively to the Operations Team on time.
  • Providing support to the BEE team in managing events, focus group discussions, organizing and setting up meetings and other forms of engagement.
  • Participating in all internal SMEA meetings and with external partners as directed by the BEE team
  • Developing weekly activity tracking tools for purpose of weekly SMEA meetings and reports-weekly, biweekly for USAID, in coordination and on behalf of BEE
  • Ensuring that all necessary routine and ad hoc reporting on component activities provides a timely, high quality, and accurate reflection of the component’s progress toward its goals and objectives and are acceptable to USAID; and
  • Undertaking research and work with private sector and government stakeholders and with project colleagues as instructed by the BEE team lead.

Duration of the Assignment:

This internship is planned to take place as per a start date of on or around February 15, 2018 and end date of on or around May 30, 2018 (subject to date of mobilization) for a total of 70 days level of effort (LOE). The total LOE will be spread over a period of 3 months, with the individual working 6 hours/day.

Duty Post: This assignment will be based in Lahore.

Qualification:

  • A Master’s degree (or current enrollment in a Master’s program) in Economics, Business Studies or other related field.
  • Prior experience in research, report writing and an in depth understanding of the macro-level policy issues in Pakistan will be preferred.
  • Ability to perform successfully as a member of multiple project-related teams
  • Excellent communications and writing ability in English
  • Demonstrated successful interpersonal skills
  • Fluency in both English and Urdu required; other Pakistani languages preferred
