Project Background:

 The Pakistan Agricultural Technology Transfer Activity (PATTA) funded through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has been working since April 2017 to increase smallholder farmers’ access to markets, alongside their overall development impact and cost-effectiveness. By building on CNFA’s 10-year history of successful implementation in Pakistan, PATTA is galvanizing ongoing private-sector investment to commercialize the types of agricultural technologies that enable smallholders to increase their incomes, improve farm productivity, create jobs, and enhance economic growth and stability. These technologies include seeds, fertilizers, water pumps, improved plant and animal breeds, precision agriculture, and integrated soil fertility management, amongst others.

Position Description:

Working under the supervision of the Agricultural Technology Specialist/Director, the Livestock Technology Officer will be responsible for improving smallholder farmers access to new livestock technologies. 

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

The main duties of the Livestock Technology Officer are:

  • Identify and recommend adaptations of livestock-related technologies that meet the needs of subsets of smallholders.
  • Contribute to demonstration activities and participatory trainings on improved and adapted livestock-related technologies for sales forces of technology firms, agrodealers, aggregators, processors, and dairy and livestock-related associations.
  • Identify STTA needs related to livestock technologies, work with the BDMS Unit to fill requirements, and oversee consultants.
  • Share project findings and materials developed on livestock-related technologies with other donor projects, public-sector organizations, trainers, para-vets, extension agents, and other key stakeholders.
  • Monitor implementation, incorporate findings, gather and disseminate feedback, and recommend related adjustments to new extension materials and trainings.
  • Contribute to public presentations and the drafting of success stories on livestock-related technologies to support program and sector-wide learning.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Pakistani national;
  • At least seven years of relevant, professional experience in roles with increasing levels of responsibility required, 10+ years preferred;
  • Experience supporting donor-funded projects is required, USAID experience preferred;
  • Bachelor’s degree in economic development, agribusiness, agriculture, or a related field required; master’s degree preferred;
  • Fluency in English is required.
