Project Description:

The USAID Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governance (KPG) Project will support the development of a stable, democratic, and prosperous Pakistan. The project will promote the success of the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (GoKP) and its reform agenda by engaging directly with provincial departments, sustaining public engagement and strategic communications, and providing integrated assistance “packages” of activities that support specific GoKP objectives.

Position Summary:

The Media and Reporting STTA will strengthen KPG's media relations as a tool to directly and indirectly engage with a wide range of stakeholders, primarily beneficiaries. S/he will also oversee development and dissemination of monthly and quarterly reporting requirements developed by project staff.

Reporting & Supervision:

The Media and Reporting STTA will report to Senior Communications Specialist.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Maintain relations with primary and teritiary print and electronic media in Khyber Pakthunkhwa to raise the profile of KPG's work across the province.
  • Visit / meet regional and vernacular press and media contacts, at a minimum of two visits per week.
  • Maintain regular contact with press/media contacts in other provinces/regions through phone and electronic means.
  • Develop and maintain a database of national, provincial and vernacular media, including stringers and bloggers.
  • Draft, translate and distribute press releases/statements, and monitor offline and online media for the development of a comprehensive and consolidated media report.
  • Monitor regional and/or national media on a daily basis, and identify and brief the communications team on opportunities, challenges and how to reshape KPG’s relationship with regional and/or national media in light of these opportunities and challenges. 
  • Arrange media immersion visits to project sites as per communications workplan.
  • Ensure aggressive media coverage of events at the national, regional and community levels.
  • Prepare initial draft weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual reports, in collaboration with the DCOP Programs, M&E Director, technical leads, activity officers, grantees and MIS Specialist.
  • Collect, compile, and analyze program activities to develop reports that can be utilized for internal and external communications.
  • Coordinate with program team to organize communication field visits from USAID (Peshawar and Islamabad), DAI Islamabad and DAI HO.
  • In support of the Communications Director and senior leadership, provide local context, advice and guidance to KPG’s campaign and policy outreach work in coordination with program team and grantees.
  • Help plan and manage project media events such as workshops and conferences when required, liaising closely with other project staff as needed.

Deliverables:

  1. Develop an exhaustive list of national, regional and vernacular press, broadcast and online media (English, Urdu, Pashto) based in KP.
  2. Organize 4-6 immersion visits of press and broadcast media in coordination with Senior Communications Specialist.
  3. Support the distribution of 2-4 press releases in the national, regional and vernacular media in English and Urdu; Pashto where applicable.
  4. Prepare initial drafts of 3 monthly and 2 quarterly reports for review, and support Senior Communications Specialist in consolidating inputs from program teams in Peshawar.
  5. Provide media coverage to 1-2 high profile events in Peshawar during the assignment period   

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Masters in mass communication or any other social sciences discipline with a minimum of eight years of experience, preferably in a media agency and/or international organization.
  • Proven working relationship with national, regional and vernacular media, preferably in KP Province and/or FATA.
  • Results-oriented, working contacts in Public Information Department (PID) and national and regional press clubs.
  • Experience of writing and designing annual reports, publications and other publicity material.
  • English and Urdu language fluency is essential. Pashto is highly desirable.
