Consultancy for Development of Training on Gender Based Violence

Legal Aid Network for Victims of Gender Based Violence Project

Legal Aid Network for Victims of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) project is an 18-month long initiative implemented by The Asia Foundation (TAF). The goal of the project is to increase access to justice for women survivors of GBV through the provision of efficient and free-of-cost legal aid services. This will be achieved by: 1) increasing awareness of marginalized communities in selected districts on legal rights of survivors of GBV and redressal mechanisms, and 2) strengthening capacities of legal aid centers and network lawyers to provide legal aid to women survivors of GBV.

Background and Objectives of the Assignment

Under the project, NGO managed legal aid centers are operational in three districts i.e. Peshawar, Haripur and Islamabad. As per Objective 1 of the project each legal aid center besides providing legal aid will also work towards increasing awareness of marginalized communities in selected districts on legal rights of survivors of GBV and redressal mechanisms. In this regard, one of the interventions at the district level is formation of a group of elderly women referred to as ‘grandmother group’, who will be trained by the legal aid centers The role of this group will be to resolve family and community disputes, including conflicts related GBV due to their central and critical role in a joint family structure. In addition, these women will act as a link between the communities and the legal aid centers, by identifying cases of GBV, and facilitating girls and women to seek help from these centers.

 

This TOR is seeking a Consultant/Firm to: (i) develop training material on GBV for legal aid centers in consultation with TAF and (ii) conduct orientation training of center staff on the use of this material for training of grandmother groups. The material should focus on transferring basic information on rights in the national/local language to members of ‘grandmother groups’ and sensitize them on the implications of GBV on individual, family and social life.

Scope of Work

  • Design and develop training material for training of ‘grandmother groups’.
  • Conduct orientation training of legal aid center staff on use of the material and facilitation methodology.
  • Submission of training report.

 

Deliverables

 

  • Trainers’ manual and handouts.
  • Delivery of orientation training for legal aid center staff.
  • Detailed training report.

 

* Training material will be prepared in Urdu language

 

Facilities to be provided by the Project

The Project will support the Consultant by providing office support and facilities, supervision and advice, and by facilitating access to important information and materials.

 

Qualifications

 

  • Master’s degree in social sciences or other relevant discipline;
  • At least 5 -7 years’ experience in the design and implementation of training materials with a focus on women’s empowerment and GBV prevention.
  • Good understanding of human rights issues, particularly related to GBV, prevention and response programming.
  • Experience of delivering trainings and developing training curriculum.
  • Good communication, report writing and presentation skills
