Background

John Snow, Inc. (JSI), a leader in global health, is currently recruiting for an Accountant for a recently awarded USAID-funded three year KP-FATA Health Initiative (KFHI) in Pakistan. The overall goal of the project is to increase the availability of quality maternal and child health services in seven districts of the Malakand Division of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) to improve the health outcomes of mothers and their children. This is a full-time position that will be based in Peshawar, Pakistan. The Accountant  will report to the Director of Finance.

Responsibilities and Duties

The Accountant will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the project’s financial management; records, payments, and receipts. This includes the following tasks:

  • Entry of all projects transactions into Quickbooks;
  • Process all accounts payable on a timely basis;
  • Process payroll in coordination with the Director of Finance on a monthly basis;
  • Develop and maintain financial accounting systems for cash management, accounts payable, accounts receivable, credit control, and petty cash;
  • Ensure applicable taxes are deducted and deposited and in line with the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), Government of Pakistan (GOP) rules and regulations;
  • Ensure that deductions of applicable taxes are made from vendor disbursements as per FBR rules & guidelines and that vendor disbursements are processed in a timely manner after review;
  • Perform end of month reconciliations (advance accounts, cash accounts, QB) and submit monthly accounts within the deadline date to Boston;
  • Prepare quarterly accruals report for USAID; Understanding of USAID rules and regulations applicable to Cooperative Agreement and Contracts ;
  • Work with DCOP/Director of Finance to explore options for digitized funds disbursements;
  • Prepare monthly cash flow requests for the Home Office;
  • Maintain effective advance and reconciliation tracking system;
  • Ensure compliance with JSI’s Operations and Finance Manual;
  • Work closely with the Manager Subcontract and Compliance as a team to ensure that the financial operations are compliant with contractual requirements;
  • Perform any other task as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 10 years of demonstrated experience as accountant and or similar position with international organization;
  • Minimum Masters Degree in Financial Management
  • Full understanding and demonstrated working experience with QB database.  
  • Ability to work as a team.
  • Willingness to work in NWFP under the present security considerations.
  • Proven ability to manage deadlines and work under pressure & respond  to  report submission deadlines.
